Job overviewOne year Clinical Fellowship in Structural Cardiology, formally appointed as a Trust Grade doctor (ST6 equivalent or post-CCT fellow) to start as soon as possible. This is a newly appointed post based at Hammersmith Hospital within the joint Directorate of Women's, Cardiac, Clinical Support and Sexual Health and within the Cardiac Division.
Main duties of the job- Involvement in clinical research
- Management of the structural waiting list in conjunction with the 3 TAVI nurses
- Preparation of the structural MDTs in conjunction with the Consultant MDT leads
- Collation and presentation of M&M data
- Involvement with the NICOR database
- Outpatients (1-2 clinics per week)
- Ward referrals
- Attendance at audit and other departmental clinical meetings
Imperial provides the main hub for comprehensive acute and complex cardiology in West London at the Hammersmith Campus. The department has a training ethos and the post will be outside the Cardiology SpR training rota and will not form part of the SpR on call rota.
Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesThe post would be suitable for candidates who are in their final year of training or who are post CCST and wish to pursue a career in Structural Cardiology.
All candidates should have full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC. Full MRCP is required. Where equivalent qualifications or experience are being offered, it is essential that the candidate provides written confirmation from the Royal College and attaches this to their application.
Person specification Qualifications- On GMC registered/ licensed Medical Practitioner MB,BS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCP or equivalent
- MD or PhD
- Acute care safe: up-to-date (C)ALS. Out of hours experience relevant to the job.
- Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job; specialty knowledge exam.
- Clinical judgment: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk.
- Practical skills: shows excellent aptitude for practical skills required in the job.
- CALS certificate or ALS instructor certificate.
- An excellent understanding of and enthusiasm for cardiovascular and respiratory anatomy and physiology and cardiac and thoracic pathology.
- Effective communication skills: demonstrates clarity in written / spoken communication.
- Empathy and sensitivity: capacity to listen and take in others' perspectives.
- Works in partnership with patients: always considers patients' preferences.
- Practices shared decision making.
