Job overview We are looking for a part-time Band 7 Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or Psychotherapist to join our Specialist Psychological Therapies team, working within the Mental Health Together/ Mental Health Together + team. The post is for 32.5 hours/week.

You will be based at Laurel House in Canterbury, with a team of psychological practitioners providing a comprehensive and multidisciplinary service to adults with complex and longstanding emotional and mental health difficulties, including trauma presentations.

Our service delivers NICE concordant interventions for service users, with complex and enduring mental health conditions. We deliver a variety of group, family and individual therapies. The team consists of Psychotherapists, Psychologists and Art Therapists. Peer and external supervision are part of the team culture.

We have strong links with various training institutions and offer training placements to clinical psychology trainees. The service also provides access to a variety of HEE post-qualification training courses.

We would be delighted to support a trainee that is near to completion of their training and we would offer a band 6 salary until successful completion and appropriate registration. The post holder will have a 6 month probation period and be supported within their discipline.

Main duties of the job To participate in the provision of psychological services to adults with severe and enduring mental health difficulties within the Ashford/Canterbury locality served by the Trust.

In particular:
To be responsible for the systematic provision of a Specialist Psychological Therapy Service to clients with complex and longstanding mental health difficulties as referred from the secondary care mental health community services within the Ashford/Canterbury locality.

To undertake high quality direct (assessment and therapeutic) and indirect (consultative, advisory and evaluative) specialist psychological interventions, making autonomous clinical decisions about own professional practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities To ensure the clinical effectiveness of own practice and of service functioning by undertaking research and development activities relevant to the service area.

To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team within the MHT/MHT+ team.

The post holder must hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car/vehicle to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Person specification
  • Qualifications and Achieved Grades
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS/HCPC/UKCP/BABCP
  • Eligible to practice with core professional qualification in NHS
  • Demonstrates high standards of written verbal communication
  • Currently in final year of Psychotherapy/Psychological therapist training
  • Demonstrable Experience working as a qualified specialist psychologist / psychotherapist for a minimum of one year
  • Training in EMDR or MBT

The Induction programme will provide an excellent opportunity for new staff to meet and engage with KMPT's subject specialists and include the required training.

The programme may involve some travel to the various training venues across Kent and Medway, the main ones being Canterbury, Maidstone and Dartford.
