Are you driven by the challenge of making complex engineering systems perform at their very best through expert commissioning? Are you excited by the idea of working alongside a wide range of disciplines to tackle technical issues and find smart solutions? Are you ready to put your technical know-how to work in improving safety, reliability, and efficiency on one of the UK's most exciting infrastructure projects?
If that sounds like you, then we have a fantastic opportunity to join the Nuclear Island team as a Commissioning Engineer at Hinkley Point C!
The Opportunity
As our next Commissioning Engineer within the Nuclear Island (NI) team, you'll be at the heart of one of the UK's most ambitious engineering projects-Hinkley Point C. You'll play a vital role in managing the crucial interface between the Regulators and the Commissioning organisation, helping to shape a safe and efficient path from preparation through to execution of commissioning activities.
You'll work hand-in-hand with the Commissioning Delivery Team and collaborate with technical, oversight, and project delivery functions to establish strong regulatory controls and compliance measures. Success in this role depends on your ability to build trusted relationships across a wide stakeholder network-including Regulatory and Licensing teams, safety case professionals, contractors, and future plant operators-as you help drive NNB's regulatory strategy forward.
What you will be doing
As a Commissioning Engineer at Hinkley Point C, you'll be part of a dynamic journey where your role evolves alongside the project itself-offering exceptional opportunities for professional growth. Blending technical expertise with delivery focus, you'll be key to ensuring equipment is delivered and commissioned successfully, all while navigating the complexity of a major infrastructure project. Your proactive mindset and ability to foster strong working relationships across teams-including designers, contractors, construction teams, and future operators-will be essential to driving progress and keeping critical interfaces on track. Additional roles and responsibilities include:
- Report directly to a Commissioning Manager within the NNB HPC Commissioning Team.
- Support project objectives by providing timely updates, insights, and coordination across delivery milestones.
- Collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders including commissioning delivery teams, operations, and contract partners.
- Conduct reviews of contractor and designer deliverables, commissioning documentation, design changes, and lists of deliverables (LOD).
- Contribute to the development of commissioning plans and preparation of detailed schedules.
- Ensure all activities meet internal procedures and comply with regulatory standards.
- Provide guidance and ensure compliance on temporary plant modifications to maintain safety and performance.
Who you are
To thrive in this role, you'll bring a proactive mindset, strong communication abilities, and a genuine commitment to safety and quality. You'll be a natural problem-solver, able to think critically under pressure and collaborate effectively with diverse teams. Your attention to detail, adaptability, and eagerness to learn will help you navigate the fast-paced and technical nature of commissioning work. Additional requirements include:
- A degree (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline is preferred.
- Previous experience in commissioning, ideally in a complex or regulated environment.
- A track record of promoting and working within a strong safety and quality culture.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly convey complex technical information.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a practical, solution-focused approach.
Applications for this role close: Monday 5th May.
