We are seeking committed individuals to join the PSC Committee and act as Independent Consumer Representatives, Market Representatives, and a Higher and Professional Education Representative at the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII). As a committee member, you will help develop and monitor policies on professional conduct, membership eligibility, competence, and the Code of Ethics. You will contribute to shaping membership and corporate scheme requirements, advising on local institute standards and governance, and ensuring compliance with Accredited Body status. Additionally, you will assist in overseeing schemes like Continuing Professional Development, Statements of Professional Standing, and Corporate Chartered Status. The role involves promoting public trust, offering governance advice, and ensuring transparency, consumer representation, and the enforcement of high standards within CII and PFS membership.
About youYou should have a recognised professional qualification and significant senior-level experience, either executive or non-executive. Strong knowledge of professional standards, ethical conduct, and governance is essential. Experience in developing and monitoring professional standards is desirable, along with an understanding of Accredited Body requirements. Experience in change management within complex organisations is a plus. You should be skilled in interpreting complex data, resolving ambiguity, and making reasoned decisions. Strong communication skills are key, with the ability to challenge constructively and offer clear, concise insights. The ability to balance business needs with the professional body's goals and to guide and support colleagues is essential. Previous board or committee experience is highly desirable, but not essential.
For each area, we seek specific experience and backgrounds:A background and/or expertise in B2C insurance (or other) sectors, who understands products being provided at high street level, and the importance of duty, accountability, and transparency to the consumer. You will bring a consumer perspective, promoting their interests and acting as an advocate for how they may feel and think about certain issues.
Given the independent nature of these specific committee appointments, you must not be a current or former member of the CII.
Market Representative x2Those from or with deep knowledge of the insurance sector, who understands the overarching general insurance market or the life and pensions market. You will have operated at a market wide level and understand insurance market trends from where they have been and where they are heading.
Higher and Professional Education Representative x1You will bring with you experience of professional development education, supporting the Committee to promote professionalism, competence, and ethical behaviour across all its membership schemes, including continuing professional development, chartered status, and statements of professional standing. Thus, this would suit those from an education and pedagogical background, whether that be from wider higher education, through to specialised professional education.
Time commitment4x Committee meetings per year (2x virtual and 2x in London; usually 3 hours), plus 1x strategy away day, with any additional meetings as required.
RemunerationThe Market Representative and Higher and Professional Education roles are unremunerated. Due to the nature of the Consumer Representatives needing to be fully independent of CII (not a current or former member), there is an honorarium of £800 paid for each formal meeting attended. For all roles, all reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
If any of these sound like you and you are excited about making a substantial impact, we would be delighted to hear from you.
