Job Description
Consultant Clinical Oncologist - Haematological Oncology & Thyroid University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

We are seeking to appoint a permanent 10 session Consultant Clinical Oncologist. This post will support the Haematology service and Thyroid service with relevant clinical research activities, audit and teaching. This includes responsibility for the radiotherapy delivery (including Proton Beam therapy) for patients with haematological malignancies/disorders, and delivery of radiotherapy, radionuclide therapy and systemic therapies for patients with thyroid cancer. In addition, we would be looking for the postholder to lead and continue to develop the research and academic profile for the teams. The appointee will attend relevant MDTs and outpatient clinics and also participate in the attending ward rota as well as on-call rotas.

We are looking to recruit an experienced and passionate Clinical Oncologist who will work with a committed multi-disciplinary team consisting of Medical and Clinical Oncologists as well as Clinical Nurse Specialists, Registrars, and our dedicated admin team. Main duties of the job

This post is responsible for the radiotherapy delivery (including Proton Beam therapy) for patients with haematological malignancies/disorders, and delivery of radiotherapy, radionuclide therapy and systemic therapies for patients with thyroid cancer. The appointee will attend relevant MDTs and outpatient clinics. They will participate in the clinical oncology attending ward rota as well as on-call rotas.

This post includes the MSCC lead role and attendance at the weekly spinal MDT.

As well as service delivery, a key element of this role will be leading and contributing to the research and academic development of the department. Finally, this post will support the haematology service and relevant clinical research activities, audit, and teaching. This work includes supervising training and non-training positions within the department as required.

It is also recognized that this complex service is constantly evolving and that development and change within this role is expected. Flexibility will be retained in order to respond to individual experience, skills or interests of the appointee.

Person Specification Professional Qualifications
  • MB,BS or equivalent Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice and revalidated as appropriate.
  • On GMC Specialist Register for Oncology or within six months of attaining CCT.
  • MRCP or equivalent NB: Non UK trained doctors must be on the GMC register and Specialist Register in Clinical Oncology by date of interview. FRCR or equivalent
  • Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
Clinical Experience
  • Comprehensive clinical experience in clinical oncology
  • Experience in sarcoma
  • Experience of and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Evidence of ability to take clinical responsibility above SpR grade
Clinical Skills
  • Management of all aspects of care of patients undergoing palliative chemotherapy
  • Undertaken advanced communications skills course
Audit Management & IT
  • Evidence of management/leadership roles
  • Understand the requirements of governance and clinical audit
  • Experience in organising clinical audit
  • Evidence of participation in quality improvement project within oncology
  • Evidence of management training
  • Evidence of ability to take responsibility
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload and manage time effectively and efficiently
Research
  • Evidence of research activity
  • Evidence of GCP training
  • Research in relevant clinical field
