Job Overview:
This role involves working in a high-intensity Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), providing care for patients requiring short-term stabilization due to high levels of risk and distress. The Consultant Psychiatrist will play a crucial role in leading crisis interventions and ensuring the safe and effective management of complex cases.
Key Responsibilities:
As a psychiatrist, you will conduct rapid psychiatric assessments for high-risk patients, including those detained under the Mental Health Act (MHA) 1983, and provide expert guidance on medication management, rapid tranquilization, and risk mitigation strategies. You will lead crisis intervention protocols, including de-escalation techniques and behavioral support plans, and act as a clinical lead for the multidisciplinary team, ensuring evidence-based care plans are implemented. Additionally, you will liaise with forensic services, law enforcement, and emergency psychiatric teams to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care.
Requirements:
GMC registration with a CCT in General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry.
Experience managing high-acuity psychiatric cases in PICU or forensic settings.
