Job Description

Applicants are invited to apply for a Consultant Radiologist post with a specialist interest in paediatric Imaging. The post is for 9 PAs and has arisen due to a retirement and reconfiguration of the existing team of 5 paediatric radiologists.

The post will be based at St Marys Hospital, which is a centre for paediatric infectious disease, paediatric haematology, and oncology (Level 2). There is a large bone marrow transplant unit, a busy general paediatric department, and an established PICU. St Mary's Hospital is the paediatric trauma centre for north west London.

The successful candidate will have completed formal training in radiology and will have experience in paediatric radiology.

An interest in training and research is strongly encouraged in accordance with the strategic aims of the Academic Health Sciences Centre.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate's clinical work will involve reporting paediatric plain radiographs and cross-sectional imaging, performing paediatric ultrasound and fluoroscopy, and attending paediatric MDT meetings. The candidate will be fully supported by the existing paediatric radiology team.

Close collaboration with the paediatric radiology team and clinicians in the management of patients will be paramount.

The appointee will contribute to the general work in the department, including duty "hot desk" reporting and general CT reporting.

A strong interest in teaching and training will be welcomed to support the radiology training scheme, sonographers, and reporting radiographers. There will be ample opportunities for audit and research projects in line with the candidate's interests.

The post will be mainly based at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington and Queen Charlotte's Hospital, Hammersmith.

Job responsibilities

For a whole-time contract: A total of 9 PAs

Clinical Activities: 7.2 PAs per week (including clinical activity, clinically related activity, predictable and unpredictable emergency work)

Supporting Professional Activities: 1.8 PAs per week (including audit, clinical governance, CPD, teaching, research, educational supervision of junior staff, and CPD)

Monday: Reporting (am) and Ultrasound (pm)

Tuesday: Paediatric MDT/fluoroscopy (am) and Paediatric MDT/Reporting (pm)

Wednesday: SPA onsite (am) and Ultrasound (pm)

Thursday: SPA off site

Friday: General/CT/HOT reporting (am) and Ultrasound (pm)

Regular meetings: There are various MDT and departmental/divisional meetings which the post-holder will attend as required.

The applicants must hold their CCT in Radiology or be on the GMC Specialty Register, or be within 6 months of being granted a CCT. Candidates who wish to work only part-time are encouraged to apply, as are applicants interested in job-sharing.

Person Specification Education/Qualifications
  • On GMC's register with a Licence to Practice or eligible to apply for GMC registration and a Licence to Practice
  • On GMC's Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the register by the date of the interviews or eligible for specialist registration
  • Appropriate Royal College Membership
Knowledge/Skills
  • Formal subspecialty training in paediatric imaging including fluoroscopy, CT, and MRI.
  • General radiology skills in plain radiography, ultrasound, CT, and MRI.
  • IT Skills and computer literacy
  • Able to take responsibility, show leadership, make decisions, and exert appropriate authority
  • Have proven skills in leading, motivating, developing, and managing the performance of colleagues.
  • Knowledge of finance/budgets
  • Management of staff
Teaching & Training
  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates/postgraduates and junior medical staff
Audit
  • Understanding of principles of clinical audit
Academic achievements
  • Evidence of achievement appropriate to appointment at consultant level at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust
Language
  • Able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements
