The Company

AAVantgarde is a clinical-stage, international biotechnology company headquartered in Italy. We have developed two cutting-edge AAV vector platforms to overcome DNA cargo limitations, targeting Usher syndrome type 1B and Stargardt disease. Founded by the renowned Professor Alberto Auricchio, a pioneer in gene therapy, our mission is to transform genetic medicine for patients with no current therapeutic options. Join us at AAVantgarde and be a part of our innovative journey to bring the next generation of genetic medicines to those in need.

The Role

In this role, you will independently manage all statistical tasks on assigned trials, from protocol and statistical analysis plan development to reporting activities and exploratory analyses. Your expertise will be crucial in explaining statistical methodologies and interpreting analysis results, providing statistical consultation, and supporting submission activities, regulatory meetings, and other drug development activities. You will also contribute to interactions with external review boards, ethics committees, consultants, and other parties, representing AAVantgarde in statistical discussions at congresses and scientific meetings.

As the biostatistics line function representative in multi-functional teams, you will ensure functional alignment and keep the team informed about the status and issues related to the assigned trials. You will collaborate with other line functions, explaining statistical concepts in a manner easily understood by non-statisticians, and providing strong statistical justifications for actions and decisions. Establishing and maintaining effective communication and sound working relationships with the Clinical Operations and wider Biometrics teams will be essential. You will also undertake independent research aligned with AAVantgarde's clinical science strategy, particularly in biostatistics applied to ophthalmology and vision sciences, and carry out statistical analyses for specific clinical trial projects.

Skills and Experience Required

The ideal candidate will possess a PhD or equivalent experience in biostatistics, medical statistics, or a related field, with extensive clinical trial experience using a variety of statistical methods. You should have a proven track record in developing and undertaking independent research, managing and analyzing complex and longitudinal data sets, and writing papers for peer-reviewed journals. A specific interest in ophthalmology and vision research is essential, along with experience in statistical analysis of ophthalmic or complex data. You will have experience working in multi-disciplinary teams, collaborating with clinical and non-clinical researchers, and supervising research students or staff. A strong working knowledge of research methods in statistics and epidemiology, and an understanding of ICH GCP, ethics, and information governance issues in research are required.

Desirable expertise includes Bayesian statistics, causal inference, clinical trial design, data exploration skills, estimands, machine learning, missing data, and modeling approaches.
