About the role

In your role as Data Management Lead you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset. This role will provide a great opportunity to establish and execute the ongoing business processes which underpin the data governance, data architecture and data quality activities. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that new ways of working in data management are effective, efficiently undertaken and build long term capabilities.

What you will be doing

As a trusted part of the Operations you will be responsible for:

  1. The successful candidate will lead the establishment and execution of new data management practices, providing support to the USSIM Head of Data Oversight and the broader Data Oversight function.
  2. Support the USSIM Head of Data Oversight in the development and implementation of data management business processes.
  3. Establish and maintain the procedures for data governance and data architecture practices, which are integrated with existing frameworks (e.g. Operational Risk), performing annual reviews and improvements.
  4. Design and manage the how-to-guides, communicating business processes and the changes thereof to key stakeholders.
  5. Provide support and advice to individuals from across the Investment Management business, to ensure that responsibilities pertaining to data management processes are clear and can be undertaken effectively.
  6. Manage the coordination and execution of annual Data Policy and framework attestations, producing MI to oversee progress.
  7. Own the administration activities for business processes related to data governance, including the Management Information for the USS Data Governance Committee.
  8. Support the roll out of the USSIM data training programme.
  9. Be an ambassador to ensure that best practices are effectively embedded in data projects.
  10. Work closely with the other members of the Data Oversight function, providing support and enabling processes which achieve shared objectives.

About you

To be successful in the role you will have:

  1. Experience working in data governance with a good understanding of data management best practices, and the foundational artefacts including data policies and business glossaries.
  2. Experience drafting business process diagrams, high quality procedures, and senior level Management Information.
  3. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to structure, plan and coordinate activities across a high number of individuals, processes and documents.
  4. Experience working in an operational team creating processes and procedures, and executing these to a high standard.
  5. Ability to foster good working relationships, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Technically proficient using a variety of tools including Microsoft Visio and Power BI.
  7. Self-starter, enthusiastic, hands-on individual who wants to make a difference in a team working environment.
  8. Appreciation of data modelling and data quality practices.
  9. Experience working in Investment Management is desirable.
  10. Experience working in large data programmes is desirable.
