At Babcock we're working to create a safe and secure world, together. Join us as an Engineering Design Manager at our Devonport Royal Dockyard site.

The role
As an Engineering Design Manager, you'll manage the technical aspects of a project, from identification of the need through to handover, acting as the Technical Authority single point of contact, organising and leading resources as the project demands.

Responsibilities include:

  • Scoping and managing the technical delivery of projects throughout their lifecycle
  • Supporting the Design Management Group to manage the development and delivery of complex design solutions within safety critical facilities, to quality, time and budget
  • Securing, organising and leading internal and external resources as the project demands
  • Ensuring that design outputs are fit for purpose and delivered within agreed budgetary and schedule constraints
  • Developing and applying a structured design process in a proportionate manner that reflects conventional and nuclear facility applications

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

Essential experience:

  • Strong technical background with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Sound understanding of designing and substantiating solutions for safety-critical applications, ideally from a regulated industry
  • Experience of the design lifecycle and a logical approach to problem solving
  • Experience in infrastructure / civil engineering projects

Qualifications:

  • Degree in a STEM subject (or equivalent experience)
  • Registered as a Chartered/Incorporated Engineer or evidence of working towards this, along with membership of a relevant professional institution

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
