About the RoleThe Liberty Mutual Reinsurance (LM Re) technology team is seeking an Actuarial Pricing Analyst / Developer to support the transformation of our global pricing capabilities through a new high-profile global Treaty Reinsurance Pricing Platform. The new cloud-based, fully integrated solution will allow Underwriters and Actuaries to move away from pricing on team-specific tools and enable enhanced risk decision-making through improved data aggregation, global pricing consistency and greater efficiency. The project is one of several high-profile investments aimed at transforming the LM Re business capabilities through people, process, data & technology change.
Reporting to the LM Re Technical Lead, and working as part of an Agile team, the Actuarial Pricing Analyst / Developer will contribute both Actuarial insights and technical development skills to support the initial implementation and future enhancement of the platform. They will build and enhance the code (primarily using Python) to build out new pricing models and enhance existing models. As part of the Agile delivery team, they will help to ensure ongoing continuous improvement through the identification and championing of new standards and toolsets. The role will also work closely with Actuarial and Underwriting end users of the platform and with the programme sponsors, the LM Re Chief Actuary and LM Re COO.
Key Responsibilities- Support the delivery of new pricing models as part of the wider underwriting transformation including deploying new and updated models.
- Be responsible for the development and delivery of software applications.
- Ability to apply development coding techniques and practices such as SOLID, DRY and KISS.
- Perform tuning, usability and improvement to existing code base.
- Confident and proficient in documenting tools, strategies and data pipelines.
- Understand the concepts of security and data protection.
- Coordinate with internal engineering and development teams to understand requirements and develop solutions at a company level.
- Contribute to the project as required to develop proposals, requirements or other project documentation.
- Contribute to the Business Solutions Team development of standards/ methodology for capturing and publishing business processes, requirements and other documentation.
- Review and consider development solution for epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, etc.
- Work effectively as part of a project team alongside the Product Owner, Scrum Master and technology team.
- Accurately identify and estimate deliverable efforts and commitments.
- Contribute to team sprint planning and set expectations for delivery of new capabilities, features, and functionalities.
- Participate in team demos, retrospectives, and all other ceremonies.
- Support creating and maintaining the backlog (including prioritization, and acceptance criteria).
- Requires educational attainments: 2.1 or better in a computer science or software engineering degree.
- Strong knowledge of Python required (pandas, unit test/pytest, classes, APIs).
- Experience of Reinsurance and/or Insurance technology solutions (Preferred but not essential).
- Knowledge of MS Excel, VBA, MS Access, SQL.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, written and presentation skills, communicating with a range of stakeholders.
- Cloud experience (AWS / Azure / GCP) advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate both in business and technical terms.
- Keen problem solver, strong analytical and decision-making skills required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider project team.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to a range of stakeholders.
- Experience working with or in Agile teams.
- Ability to work to deadlines and to meet standards.
