Job Description

Are you a dynamic financial leader ready to drive transformation and innovation? Do you have the vision, expertise, and ambition to shape financial strategy and ensure long-term sustainability? If so, then this could be the role for you!

We're on the lookout for a strategic financial leader to join us as our new Director of Finance. If you're looking for a challenge where you can truly shape the future, drive efficiency, and deliver real social impact - this is it.

About Yorkshire Housing

You can probably already tell that we're not your typical housing provider! With around 20,000 homes (and more in the pipeline), we're on track with our growth plan to build 8,000 new homes across Yorkshire.

At Yorkshire Housing, we're not just about bricks and mortar - we're about people, communities, and creating a better future. With ambitious plans ahead, we need a forward-thinking finance leader to ensure we remain financially strong, resilient, and prepared for the future.

What will I be doing?

Reporting into the Exec Director of Finance and Governance, you'll lead the finance function, ensuring that our decision making, financial management, risk controls, and funding strategies are best in class. You'll work at Executive and Board level, ensuring Yorkshire Housing can continue to invest in homes, services, and communities. We've broken down some key responsibilities here:

  1. Setting the financial vision - Lead Yorkshire Housing's finance function, developing and implementing a financial and treasury strategy that ensures financial sustainability.
  2. Driving transformation - Overhaul finance systems, processes, and culture to create a high-performing, future-focused finance operation.
  3. Providing strategic insight - Support the Executive Team and Board with expert financial advice to inform decision-making.
  4. Managing risk and compliance - Ensure robust financial governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management to protect Yorkshire Housing's future.
  5. Optimising financial performance - Oversee budgeting, forecasting, treasury, and procurement to maximise value for money and financial efficiency.
  6. Leading and inspiring teams - Build, develop, and empower a high-performing finance function, fostering innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
  7. Ensuring business resilience - Identify risks, challenges, and opportunities in a changing economic and regulatory environment, ensuring Yorkshire Housing is prepared for the future.

What do you need to apply?

It goes without saying that you'll already be an established senior leader with bags of experience in financial management, treasury, and accounting, with a professional qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA). This isn't just a finance job though - it's a strategic leadership role at the heart of a progressive and purpose-driven organisation (social housing experience isn't mandatory).

You'll need to be able to think with the customer always in mind and have a passion for people with strong influencing and relationship management skills and the confidence to engage with Executive Teams, Boards, external partners, and regulators.

We're looking for someone with a strategic mindset who is able to translate financial data into insights that drive long-term success. Part of this will include leading through change and fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and high performance.

What's in it for you

A salary of £110,000, 31 days annual leave (rising annually to 36 days), health cash-plan, matched pension contributions up to 9%, just to name a few.

We have a flexible approach to work so living in Yorkshire isn't a requirement of the role (although we'll expect to see a fair bit of you here!).

Our working environment is inclusive as well as diverse. We believe difference is what makes us stronger and recognise the importance of our teams reflecting the communities we serve, so we welcome and encourage candidates from all backgrounds for this role.
