Disaster Recovery Specialist (Technical Author / Consultant)

We are currently looking to hire an experienced Disaster Recovery Specialist (Technical Author / Consultant) on a 2 year FTC to be based full remote with occasional travel to EU sites. We are seeking a person who has experience in writing Disaster Recovery plans with a strong understanding of the technology that the DR Plan is recovering. Our client expects candidates to have detailed knowledge of current and legacy backup technologies and principles, and to identify where risk exists and flag it for attention, potentially suggesting remediation.

There is an active focus on protection against cyber-attacks, ensuring backups are protected and vulnerabilities minimized. DR is not just about backup; we seek candidates who are technically literate. While they won't be "subject matter experts" (SME) in fields like networking or VMware, they should be able to converse with relevant SMEs to understand the technical information required for the DR plans.

The DR Plans are being written for critical services and applications across Europe, involving diverse technology and a range of platforms (cloud-based & on-prem) and operating systems. Experience with outsourcing to third parties is important. We particularly value experience in the logistics sector, as much of the data is transient and requires a different protection approach. Such experience is desirable but not mandatory; a proactive candidate should appreciate the requirements.

You must be:

  1. Someone with a breadth of experience, knowledgeable and seasoned in the field.
  2. An experienced DR Plan Writer, capable of demonstrating the ability to write DR plans at scale for large companies spanning the EU.
  3. Able to identify application and DR risks for the business to address.
  4. Prepared to manage approximately 150 critical applications, categorized into Tier 1 and Tier 2, with expectations that these critical dependencies will double, resulting in around 300 DR plans to be written in 2 years.
  5. Able to organize and conduct testing exercises, including desktop walkthroughs, data restores, and time-based restores.
  6. Technically adept, capable of discussing backup technologies, cloud and on-prem applications, VMware, Microsoft Applications, Oracle Cloud/AWS, and containerization, while understanding the strengths and weaknesses of these technologies.
  7. Committed to adhering to the company's recovery objectives for both legacy and current technology.
  8. Skilled in creating DR plans with a standardized look and feel.
