Work type: Fixed term opportunity for 12 x months, working full time, 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday between a working window of 8:00am-6:00pm.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Distribution Maintenance Engineer to join us in the Water Distribution Team and be a part of helping us to ensure a high quality water supply to our customers. Could this be you?

Where you fit in?

You will play a key role in the engineering and planning function of the Distribution Maintenance Department in Water Distribution. This team is responsible for the investigation and execution of planned Distribution Operations Maintenance Strategy (DOMS) flushing throughout Yorkshire, with a particular focus on District Metered Area's (DMAs) that have the highest number of discoloured water contacts. The team's primary objectives are to reduce the number of water quality contacts received by the business through the analysis of historical flushing data and the design of DMA conditioning plans. Additionally, the team collaborates with the Network Engineering Team to support the delivery of Legal Instruments related to discolouration.

Some key responsibilities include the following -

  • Undertake detailed investigations and formulate DOMS plans and timetables for the strategic flushing of distribution mains within DMAs to minimise future Water Quality contacts for turbidity.
  • Work with the network modelling team to accurately determine impact of planned flushing activity through desired flow/duration of works required to achieve optimal performance and risk mitigation.
  • Download and process all logging data from pre to post flushing activity and report accordingly.
  • Continuously look to understand how new research can be adapted to improve the effectiveness of the DMA programme.
  • Ensure work basket is up to date and available for flushing teams and assist operational teams onsite in delivery of complex flushing plans.
  • Monitor drinking water contacts in relation to Black, Brown, Orange (BBO) to inform DMA risk.

What skills & qualifications are we looking for?

  • An understanding of the design and operation principles of potable water distribution network assets
  • Knowledge of discolouration management within the water network such as DOMS process would be advantageous as would some knowledge of network modelling, eg - infoworks system
  • Excellent numerical skills, data analysis and manipulation skills
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills
  • Strong Health and Safety awareness
  • Pragmatic approach and ability to amend planned activities at short notice
  • Ability to maintain internal and external relationships
  • Ability to work on our initiative
  • A valid UK driving licence with less than 6 points would be advantageous for the role as there will be some travel to site required on occasions.
