Job Description Introduction to the role

One More Chapter is an innovative, award-winning publishing division of HarperCollins UK. They are the home of global bestsellers with a remit to be at the forefront of all things digital.

Combining market-leading digital publishing with the commercial expertise of HarperCollins, the vision for One More Chapter is to close the gap between author, publisher and reader; reacting speedily to reading trends and publishing the best in commercial fiction across all formats - audio, eBook and print.

We are looking for a new editor to join our small but mighty team and we are looking for a passionate commercial reader who is familiar with the digital market, has experience of acquiring and working with authors as well as reacting quickly to global trends and identifying opportunities across all formats. With our startup mentality there will be the scope to acquire new projects and innovate and we are always looking for new authors and new ways of doing things. This is a fast-paced fiction list and you will be part of a team that works flexibly and has a lot of fun along the way!

Core responsibilities
  1. Managing and editing a list of existing OMC authors, maintaining communication with authors and agents and developing publishing strategies
  2. Assisting the publisher and publishing director with their list of authors, providing support and responding to authors in a timely manner
  3. Liaising with authors over the progress of their book, as well as liaising with teams across the business including marketing, sales, rights, operations and digital
  4. Liaising with freelance editors for projects, generating POs through JDE and receipting them through Bottomline
  5. Have best in class metadata for all authors one year ahead of publication and review metadata for frontlist and backlist titles on a regular basis
  6. Search for new authors for IP projects
  7. Actively search for new titles through our open submission portal, Submittable, and respond in a timely manner
  8. Project managing titles from acquisition through to publication
  9. Ownership of metadata/AIs for individual authors ensuring up-to-date information is available internally and externally
  10. Writing cover/catalogue copy as required
Experience required
  1. Experience working at assistant editor level or above
  2. Previous commissioning experience is desirable but not essential
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to express technical and creative vision clearly
  4. Excellent organisational skills and experience of working to deadlines
  5. Advanced MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  1. Remains calm under pressure, able to work at pace and to tight deadlines
  2. A team player, working in close proximity with internal teams
  3. Ability to build and maintain good working relationships
  4. Dynamic and innovative, not afraid to do things differently
  5. Excellent attention to detail
  6. A love of commercial fiction
  7. Knowledge of digital publishing
