As the Emergency Response Operations Manager, you will work at the heart of the electricity sector. You will play a critical role in making sure NESO can respond to any incidents that could affect us, and that the lights stay on day after day.

You will have a particular focus on the emergency preparedness of the Electricity National Control Centre (ENCC) and ensuring it is resilient and compliant with ISO 22301 (business continuity). You will also ensure the wider organisation has suitable resilience for responding to incidents, including up to a National Power Outage.

Using the knowledge you build through emergency response, you will regularly contribute to energy-sector-wide surveys, assessments and commissions, outlining the resilience of NESO and the ENCC.

You will work closely with the Emergency Response Capabilities team, who focus on exercising and training, and improving the emergency response capabilities of the wider energy-sector.

This role is based from Wokingham, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

Key Accountabilities
  • Ensure NESO has suitable resilience during times of stress, including a national power outages
  • Respond to R&EM commissions as the voice of NESO's resilience
  • Ensure the ENCC passes an annual ISO 22301 Business Continuity Audit
  • Oversee regular ENCC evacuation exercises
  • Perform on-call duties and, when required, join an emergency response team
  • Build strong working relationships with the energy industry, DESNZ and OFGEM
About you
  • Business Continuity : In depth knowledge of experience of emergency response planning and business continuity management including the ISO22301 standards
  • Emergency response : Proven skills in emergency response, including the ability to assess risks, develop contingency plans, and coordinate responses during emergencies
  • Electricity and/or gas knowledge : Familiarity with the energy sector, at a high-level
  • Communication skills : Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with internal teams, external stakeholders and regulatory bodies. Able to serve as the voice of NESO in various forums
  • Leadership and Coordination : Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience in coordinating cross-functional teams during high-pressure situations
  • On-call availability : Willingness to be on-call and occasionally respond to emergencies outside of regular working hours
  • Security Clearance : Willing and able to pass SC clearance - essential
What you'll get

A competitive salary between £65,000 - £75,000pa - dependent on experience and capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance, 28 days annual leave as standard, and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
