Role Overview

The role sits within HR, and partners with HR and the business managers in the delivery of a proactive employee relations offering. This is a trusted advisor who is able to pragmatically advise on Employee Relations ("ER") issues, delivering consistent and clear advice. The role will take a lead, assisting the Group Head in managing processes with close collaboration with Control Partners from other business divisions.

Role Responsibilities

The purpose of the role is to minimise risk of employee issues through:

  • Facilitate and organise Committee meetings related to conduct programmes, working closely with the Head of Employee Relations and senior management to ensure adherence to internal governance and timely follow-up actions. Involves close collaboration with control partners on all aspects of conduct management;
  • Lead on managing Employee Relations data and information, overseeing the production of statistical reporting related to themes and trends. Includes ensuring data is complete, devising and providing information and government reporting;
  • Case management for disciplinary matters and formal complaints; preparing and reviewing case related documentation; working with independent hearing officers; drafting outcome letters and reporting/following up on any recommendations and conclusions;
  • Contributing to internal Committee meetings;
  • Working with the Employee Case Managers to provide guidance and direction to HR Advisory on employee relations matters including but not limited to: performance improvement plans, conduct matters, redundancies, settlement agreements, exit discussions and sickness absence process;
  • Ensuring consistency of process and outcomes when managing employee related risk through the documentation and review of toolkits and guidance;
  • Supporting policy development in line with best practice, legal requirements and in support of strategic objectives;
  • The development and delivery of training for independent hearing officers, HRBPs, managers and employees;
  • The promotion of a progressive culture through conduct management and the delivery of learning opportunities;
  • Effectively managing relationships with key internal stakeholders working closely with and also ensuring that functional boundaries are acknowledged and adhered to, particularly with Compliance and Legal functions;
  • Play an active role within the team environment, share knowledge and support HR colleagues; and
  • Proactively and collaboratively partner with HR Operations to ensure first class business delivery.

Experience / Competences

Essential

  • Hands-on ER case management experience within a Financial Services environment;
  • A sound understanding of employment law and its practical application for managing employee related risk;
  • Hands-on experience of managing and advising on ER matters such as misconduct, employee grievances, employee sickness/health & wellbeing, performance management, employment disputes;
  • Experience in dealing with business restructuring such as head count reduction, TUPE, office moves;
  • Collaborates with stakeholders within and outside of the immediate department 'to get the job done. Builds relationships and networks in order to be a trusted advisor;
  • Personable and engaging, a confident communicator at all levels, an active listener who can deliver difficult messages in a composed and empathetic manner;
  • Constructively handles disagreements to reach a resolution;
  • Ability to work with diverse groups/personalities;
  • Can think around a situation, pulling together many strands with the policy at the forefront of the decision;
  • Shows evidence of being comfortable working in fast paced or pressured environment;
  • Keeps emotions under control in difficult situations;
  • Handles feedback constructively
