We're looking for a passionate Energy Market Analyst to join our Strategy and Regulation Team! As an Energy Market Analyst within the Market Analytics team, you will be part of a team that navigates future pathways for Group Strategy, Innovation and Market Analytics (SIMA) by quantifying risks and opportunities for National Grid. The team combines the latest market intelligence, deep energy sector expertise and sophisticated modelling tools to provide insights that matter right across the business. We provide a trusted view on energy markets outlook and share insights that help the business to make informed commercial and strategic decisions.
You will be part of a team that focuses on supporting National Grid Ventures (NGV), offering analysis on Interconnectors and Offshore Hybrid Assets, both for existing projects and future business development activities.
This role can be based out of our Strand (London) or Warwick office, and we'd hope to see you at least two days per week but you're welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We're happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!
What You'll Do- Contribute to Market Analytics long-term scenarios by providing research and modelling of the GB & European power markets and technologies.
- Conduct modelling of the GB and European power markets (using Plexos) to support commercial projects, investment decisions, strategic planning, risk assessments, and identification of new business opportunities.
- Provide cost-benefit analysis (CBA) of projects in line with ENTSOE and Ofgem's methodologies to assist NGV in their decision-making for new interconnectors and offshore hybrid assets projects.
- Continuously improve Market Analytics' internal models, tools, methodologies and assumptions and assess the impact of major news or market developments.
- Work collaboratively with NGV teams to define, deliver and present quantitative analyses, aiding in the development of new projects.
- Build and maintain relationships by coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, which may involve conducting joint analyses with external partners or third parties.
- Provide support to the Group Strategy, NGV, and Corporate Affairs (media stories) teams through ad-hoc market analysis, modelling, and assessments.
- Analyse EU and GB policies and market frameworks for offshore hybrid assets, interconnectors and offshore wind deployment.
- A Bachelor's Degree.
- Self-motivated, interested in the energy sector and decarbonisation challenges, responsible individual.
- Understanding of the energy markets and ideally GB and EU power sector fundamentals and the electricity industry landscape.
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and modelling skills.
- Experience (or education) with Excel, Python, VBA or other programming skills; familiarity with Power BI or other data visualisation/dashboard development packages is a plus.
- Experience (or education) developing or employing energy market models. Previous experience with commercial production cost modelling software, such as PLEXOS, Aurora, BID3, etc., is a plus.
- Ability to translate model outputs into insights and explain their impact.
- Demonstrated inter-personal skills and ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, project partners, and external stakeholders to achieve consensus and positive outcomes.
Base Salary of £48,000 - £58,000 dependent on experience.
