Thames Water is seeking an Environmental Permitting Specialist to join our dynamic Permitting & Regulatory Support Team.

The primary purpose of this role is ensuring necessary Environmental Permits are in place and providing technical advice on permitting to support our business activities.

Thames Water is committed to improving our impact on the environment, and this role plays a vital part in ensuring the success of our Environmental Regulation obligations. You'll be joining a friendly team of experts specialising in the regulation and permitting of wastewater activities.

We are also open to considering an enthusiastic graduate with an environmental degree who is keen to apply themselves and start a career within permitting. You will receive full training and be supported through your development within Thames Water.

What you'll be doing as an Environmental Permitting Specialist:
  • Managing Environmental Permits related to our wastewater activities.
  • Providing technical advice and support on permitting and compliance.
  • Negotiating Permit changes with the Regulators.
  • Making informed and timely decisions based on analysis of technical data.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Base Location: Office based near the train station in Reading RG1 8DB, Clearwater Court.

Working hours: Hybrid work format, with up to twice a week working from the office and on-site visits when required.

What you should bring to the role:
  • A degree in a scientific or environmental discipline is advantageous, but candidates with relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Proven ability to develop an understanding of a technical discipline and a keenness to develop expertise in Environmental Permitting.
  • Previous experience in, or knowledge of Environmental Regulations and regulatory frameworks within the Water Industry is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of wastewater and water treatment processes is beneficial.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to negotiate and liaise with stakeholders.
