Job Overview

Applications are invited from CT3 Trainees and SpR/ST4-6 for appointment to a Fellow in Medical Education (FME) placement. This unique post offers an exciting opportunity to develop experience and skills as a medical educator.

The role follows a hybrid work structure where the postholder can work remotely, from the Simulation Centre, or any other site depending on service requirements.

Main Duties of the Job

The successful applicant will play an active role in the teaching and training of undergraduate medical students, junior doctors, and other medical staff within NELFT; Barts & The London School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD); and the London Deanery.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

The main responsibilities include collaboration with the Associate Dean for undergraduate Medical Education to develop and deliver the in-house teaching programme for undergraduate medical students undertaking Psychiatry placements within the Trust. This will include:

  2. Coordinating fellow psychiatric resident doctors to teach students
  3. Organizing and delivering clinical interview skills simulation training
  4. Leading weekly student reflective practice groups
  5. Organizing the Trust's annual A-level student work experience summer school programme

The role expects the postholder to actively contribute to the development and delivery of the Trust's postgraduate education programme for resident doctors and other medical professionals. The postholder will undertake projects in medical education, under supervision, with support to attend a formal university course in medical education.

To maintain clinical involvement, it would be beneficial to carry out two sessions of clinical work per week in a psychiatric subspecialty of choice within NELFT. The successful applicant has an optional on-call commitment at either core or higher trainee level, which will be remunerated appropriately.
