Job Description

Please note: this is not an active recruitment process, but an expression of interest in being contacted in the future.

As we embark on a big year at Bertha Earth, we're looking to grow and diversify the pool of filmmakers we work with.

Collaborating with our marketing team, you'll help us to capture stories from our programme, showcase our organisation's impact, and document the growth and transformation of the young people we work with - to inspire and move our audiences to care about and take action for the planet.

From in-school workshops to farm retreats, nature walks and interviews with young activists, we film a wide range of content across the year, and we've got plans to level-up how we tell these stories.

As such, we're looking to find filmmakers or videographers who not only self-shoot and edit but, importantly, bring a director's storytelling mindset and can help us develop creative concepts, explore novel filmmaking approaches, and craft narratives that deeply resonate with our audiences.

At Bertha Earth, we recognise the challenge facing new talent in securing paid opportunities and the need for more diverse voices across the creative industries. If you are passionate about using film to tell stories that create impact, we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet all the requirements we've listed below:

Skills and Experience

  • You have proven experience as a filmmaker, videographer or similar role.
  • You're able to capture and edit footage to create high-quality, compelling stories no matter the format, from short-form social media content to longer-form interviews and promotional films.
  • You're available to shoot on-location across London, South England, and occasionally Wales (travel expenses will be covered for non-London shoots, as well as accommodation if necessary).
  • You're great at collaborating and can work together with our marketing team to refine film ideas and what we shoot and proactively identify opportunities to level up our storytelling and production values.
  • You're diligent about ensuring every aspect of the production is carefully planned, and schedules are met.
  • You are detail-oriented and can work to a tight brief when necessary.
  • You're passionate about the natural world, working with young people, contributing to a mission-led organisation and using the power of film to drive change in the world.

A bonus if you're interested in teaching young people to become storytellers and how to use filmmaking tools or if you've worked on documentary-style projects.

Applicant Requirements

  • Subject to an enhanced DBS check with Bertha Earth to visit schools and work with young people.
  • You will be required to agree to and sign our code of conduct.
  • You must have the right to work in the UK.
