Due to continuing growth and development of Merlin's attractions and brands on a global scale, we are looking for a Guest and eCommerce Architect to join our Technology department on a full time basis. The role will be based at our London, Bankside office, with a hybrid element for those looking for more flexibility.

Key Accountabilities

• Guest & eCommerce Architecture Design: Develop scalable, resilient microservices architectures for enterprise systems, ensuring cost-effectiveness, security, and alignment with business goals and future growth. Define service boundaries, communication protocols, and modularity to decouple legacy platforms.

• Technical Leadership: Guide development teams in microservices best practices, ensuring adherence to principles like domain-driven design (DDD), event-driven architecture, and API-first development. Oversee technical decisions to maintain architectural consistency.

• Cloud & DevOps Integration: Implement microservices in cloud-native environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and collaborate with DevOps teams on CI/CD, containerization, and automation for efficient deployments.

• Performance & Security Optimization: Monitor and improve microservices performance, scalability, and reliability. Ensure security across services with standards for API security, identity management, and encryption. Conduct performance tuning and vulnerability assessments.

• Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with product, development, and operations teams to meet business and technical requirements. Facilitate communication across teams to ensure consistency and avoid duplication.

• Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on eCommerce trends and drive continuous improvements in service agility, performance, and scalability. Evolve architecture in response to new technologies and business needs.

Qualifications & Experience

• Extensive experience in designing and implementing microservices architectures, with a proven track record of successfully delivering complex, distributed systems in large-scale enterprise environments.
• Strong background in software development, with experience across multiple programming languages (e.g. Java, .NET, Python) and modern frameworks.
• Expert knowledge of microservices design patterns, principles, and best practices, including domain-driven design, service decomposition, API gateways, and asynchronous communication.
• Proficiency in cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP) and their native services, particularly in containerisation (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes), serverless architectures, and scalable microservices deployments.
• Experience with DevOps practices and tools for continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), automation, and infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible).
• Hands-on experience in implementing and managing microservices architecture on cloud and on-premises environments, including API management, service discovery, and orchestration technologies.
• Deep understanding of security concerns in microservices, including identity management, encryption, and secure API development.
