Head of APAC, MEA, & LATAM, Reinsurance Alternative Solutions

Within this role, you act as an underwriter within the Alternative Solutions team and you are specifically of SCOR's Reinsurance Alternative Solutions offering, across the developing APAC, MEA, & LATAM region, developing relationships with clients, and our brokers.
As Head of APAC, MEA, & LATAM, you will drive the strategic engagement for our business development, including business origination and maintenance of the SCOR "Alternative" offering to clients and brokers, in the region.
You are responsible for the achievement of the Plan, and for the profitability of the alternative solutions transactions in the region, driving the success of the underwriting team within the region. Your plan contribution forms part of the global Alternative Solutions ambition, and is achieved through sound technical and profitable underwriting of your transactions.
These goals are achieved through your skill at developing SCOR's market share and leadership position across Alternative Solutions, through enhancing the Group image in the market by efficient and innovative support of client needs, being the partner our clients not only need, but ask for.
ResponsibilitiesKey duties and responsibilities
- Strategic Client Engagement - Originate, design, evaluate and price offers of non-traditional / alternative deals proposals from various sources and negotiate conditions of the contracts.
- Portfolio Optimisation - Manage and renew an existing portfolio of non-traditional / alternative deals currently in place.
- Proposition Innovation - Develop tailored products and promote non-traditional / alternative deals to SCOR clients, brokers and SCOR underwriting teams, designing alternative capital-based strategies for clients.
- Leadership - Manage the regional team, ensuring optimised allocation of the workload and support the career paths, encouraging personal development and appropriate training when required.
- Client Management - Maintain relationships with clients and brokers, showcasing our position in the market, and additional value provided through our expertise.
- Operational Excellence - Contribute to the deal maintenance, including reporting, reserving and claims settlements in conjunction with the relevant department.
- Compliance - Ensure compliance with ICS process and Guidelines within the region.
- New Market Ideation - Investigate, analyze existing and new markets in the area and propose new contracts in order to develop the existing portfolio.
Required experience & competencies
- Industry experience, work experience in underwriting in an international environment in an "alternative risk transfer" environment.
- Technical knowledge of subjects associated to non-traditional underwriting as well as a wider understanding of related actuary, accounting, legal, regulatory and capital management topics.
Solution Mindset - The ability to view a client problem and provide a range of solutions that could improve their risk profile or their solvency. Able to cross-sell when another SCOR proposition would best suit requirements. Be seen as a true advisor to the client; a go-to provider.
Financial Acumen - Understand Risk, Solvency, Accounting, Anti Money Laundering, and Tax implications for the client, to a level that allows constructive discussions.
Entrepreneurial Spirit - Identifying new market opportunities, developing innovative products and adapting to emerging risks.

Critical Thinking - Assess complex risks, analysing market trends, and making data-driven underwriting decisions to improve profitability whilst mitigating exposure.
Negotiation & Persuasion - Lead high impact negotiations involving complex policies, ensuring client satisfaction and profitability, negotiating terms, resolving conflicts, and advocating for clients, while ensuring profitability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration - Collaborate across departments to develop comprehensive and innovative risk solutions.
Stakeholder Management - Clearly able to explain risk decisions and understand client needs; reflecting these in productive discussions to progress business relationships.
Wordings Leadership - Crafting precise and balanced contract wordings to minimise disputes and ensure clarity on coverage, exclusions and claims obligations.
Regulatory Awareness - Staying up to date with evolving insurance regulations in different markets, ensuring compliance with ethical standards and managing cross-border complexities.
Required Education
Qualified by experience accepted.
Business focused degree advantageous, but not required.
