Head of Exposure Management
Description The Head of Exposure Management will be responsible for leading the Exposure Management function across Polo Managing Agency and its managed syndicates. This role will play a key part in ensuring robust exposure management practices are in place, providing strategic oversight and technical expertise to support underwriting decisions and risk assessment.
In addition, the role will support the Director of Underwriting in the development and delivery of commercial exposure management services, catering to both internal stakeholders and external clients.

Description The Head of Exposure Management will be responsible for leading the Exposure Management function across Polo Managing Agency and its managed syndicates. This role will play a key part in ensuring robust exposure management practices are in place, providing strategic oversight and technical expertise to support underwriting decisions and risk assessment.
In addition, the role will support the Director of Underwriting in the development and delivery of commercial exposure management services, catering to both internal stakeholders and external clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversight of the management of catastrophe exposure in line with agreed risk appetites and tolerances.
- Identifying, building and implementing appropriate tools to support effective and efficient exposure data capture, management and use.
- Implementing PMA's risk-based framework for exposure quantification and monitoring, to support downstream decision making and reporting.
- Ensuring appropriate resource is in place to meet the business needs, including strategic projects, regular deliverables and research and development.
- Oversight and development of PMA's delivery against Lloyd's Catastrophe Exposure Principles (2a/b)
- Defining and maintaining an appropriate cat view of risk methodology.
- Implementing appropriate risk-based validation of the cat view of risk.
- Maintaining a materially complete representation of cat in the syndicate view of risk.
- Adopting a robust risk-based framework for managing changes to cat view of risk and exposure management methodologies.
- Maintaining consistent understanding, use and continual development of cat view of risk outputs.
- Having robust governance and oversight of risk aggregations.
- Validation and submission of regular and adhoc Lloyd's exposure management reporting
- Chair the PMA Exposure Management Working Group and attend Syndicate Management Committees (where relevant)
- In conjunction with the Director of Risk and Compliance Services, develop go to market service offerings around EM and related services, develop marketing plan, resourcing plan and proactively manage pipeline.
- To establish and lead all EM services including target operating model design and build.
- To Support the Head of REM to transform existing clients, develop and drive growth for this service line, identifying target clients and designing a service package appropriate to the scale and depth of their needs.
- To be part of the client engagement team that promotes Polo services in the exposure management space but also across the whole of Polo Works.
- Oversee and manage the day-to-day, onboarding and subsequent BAU delivery.
- Build a specialist team from cross trained internal candidates as well as new hires, including the identification and delivery of appropriate training.
- Ensure team has capacity to absorb new clients, the model is scalable and not constrained.
- Establish all and any performance and management reporting mechanisms. Look to exploit any technologies in support of all deliverables.
- Look to continual improvements in process, accuracy and efficiency. Continually assess new and alternative digital solutions, market developments and initiatives, to understand impacts to Polo, threats and opportunities.
- Attend relevant events, conferences, courses and forum to keep knowledge relevant and up to date.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Minimum 5 years' experience in the Lloyd's market in an exposure management related role.
- Excellent level of IT skills, including exposure management modelling software.
- Self-motivated and proactive.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal skills.
- Highly numerate with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others and establish strong relationships both internally and externally.
- Preferably graduate and ACII qualified.
- Excellent understanding of Lloyd's, PRA and Solvency II exposure management requirements, Lloyd's operations and related regulatory reporting.
- Understanding of underwriting and outwards reinsurance.
- Understanding of Lloyd's Principles for Doing Business, with a detailed understanding of Principle 2 Exposure Management.
