Team and role overview- The IT Infrastructure team is a well-established team currently consisting of seven members that cover roles including Infrastructure, M365, Networks and Unified Communications. The team is focused on delivering a consistently good service to the business.
- IT Infrastructure has a limited reliance on 3rd party vendors with many of the functions being brought in house. An MSP is in place to deliver support services to the End User community at BII London and regional offices. The strategy is for this to remain in place.
- The IT Infrastructure team will support all elements of the IT service at BII. It ensures that the availability, continuity, and performance of that service is maintained in line with the needs of the group.
- Reporting to the Director, Head of IT Production, the Head of IT Infrastructure will be responsible for providing the IT Infrastructure services to BII globally.
- The Head of IT Infrastructure is line manager for a small team covering Infrastructure, Networks and Unified Comms, Azure, Audio-Visual and M365.
- The IT Infrastructure team implements and supports systems in line with standards and guidelines from Architecture, Project Services, Security and Governance and Business Applications.
- Collaboration with the other IT functions above in developing and setting standards, guidelines and policies is a key element of this role.
- Working with the rest of the Technology and Security Management team to develop and deliver the Technology strategy.
Key responsibilities include:
- Direct line management responsibilities for permanent and contract staff in the IT Infrastructure team; team size: seven.
- Development and reporting of IT Infrastructure performance metrics.
- Efficient, day to day oversight of the IT environment
- Network and Servers
- Hardware and software procurement, installation, and maintenance
- Data backup and recovery
- Performance testing and monitoring
- Selection, appointment, and management of appropriate 3rd parties.
- Set operational direction and deliver excellent IT services.
- Provision of resources for projects.
- Contribution to the development of the IT Strategy and Operational model.
- Collaboration with other teams inside and outside of Technology and Security as required to support and develop the IT service and as guided by the Director, Head of IT Production.
- Previous suitable experience leading an IT Infrastructure team ideally within a Financial Services (Private Equity / Investment Management / Investment Banking) or NGO organisation is essential as that experience will contribute to building the structure and discipline for this function.
- Capable of communicating equally well with business users and technical professionals.
- Strong leadership skills managing and developing highly technical professionals.
- Due to BII's cloud-based infrastructure, must have strong engagement and management experience of 3rd party service providers.
- Proficient level of understanding of Microsoft technologies for infrastructure and workplace productivity tools, including Cloud, SaaS, Azure, M365, as well as networks.
- Experience in supporting international sites.
- Fundamentals of ITIL, Agile, DevOps and Prince2.
