Job Description

Who we are looking for

With immediate effect we are looking for a Germany-based Head of Risk Governance Oversight, Managing Director. The role is assigned within the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) organization of State Street Bank International (SSBI), the EU banking subsidiary of State Street Corporation.

The role will have a dual reporting line both to the CRO for SSBI and to the Global Head of Risk Governance in the US. This role will involve a variety of tasks overseeing multiple elements of the Enterprise Risk Management framework in SSBI, often highly demanding, and will serve as Chief of Staff for the SSBI CRO. Key attributes will include strong communication and multi-tasking skills, the ability to collaborate with stakeholders from global and local risk and cross functions teams across the lines of defence, ability to draw horizontal risk view across multiple risk disciplines/topics and the capability to work in a dynamic and complex environment.

Banking is a risk-taking business. The goal of ERM is to ensure that State Street's risks are proactively identified, well-understood, and prudently managed in support of our business strategy. As such, ERM provides risk oversight, support, and coordination to ensure consistent identification, measurement and management of all risks possible in providing products and services to our clients.

What you will be responsible for

Major responsibilities include:

  • Oversee and coordinate for regular and adhoc updates as required, on SSBI's Risk Management and Appetite Framework (RMF/RAF), incl. required documentation, ensuring alignment of Risk Strategy with the Business Strategy.
  • Oversee the annual Bank-wide Risk Identification and all the associated process, assess emerging risks and provides an effective challenge to the assessment conducted by the Subject Matter Experts in their respective risk areas within ERM.
  • Coordinate risk interdependencies across various risk dimensions, and help to identify and lead to execute efficient solutions on transversal risk topics.
  • Play a key centralised role in coordinating and in driving SSBI ERM's centralised responses to external and internal audit, regulatory feedback and compliance requirements.
  • Provides the direct senior oversight to the Bank's Risk Governance team which has broad responsibilities including but not limited to maintaining SSBI's risk policies and procedures and other technical risk governance related documents, managing the CRO reporting to the SSBI risk committee, Executive Management Board and Supervisory Board, coordinate and act as secretary to the monthly risk committee.
  • Act as the Oversight Portfolio Manager role to oversee outsourced model risk governance from SSBT in 2LoD capacity.
  • Acts as an important bridge and work closely as SSBI's risk representative with global risk governance function ensuring global risk management framework and operating model can be cascaded down to legal entities with different local jurisdictional requirements.
  • Serve as the Chief of Staff for SSBI CRO, enabling the CRO to effectively oversee the SSBI ERM function in performing quality assurance of all CRO reporting, ensuring effective risk control environment and drives the content for transversal risk oversight that cannot be effectively performed within each of the risk dimension, e.g. Climate and Environmental risk and Recovery and Resolution Plan.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Successfully completed Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Business Administration, Economics or Risk Management related field.
  • Minimum of 10+ years experience in a financial institution, ideally in a risk controlling or risk management function.
  • A high degree of professionalism with proven history of providing effective leadership to diverse teams.
  • The ability to manage complexity, effectively prioritize multiple tasks and work independently in non-routine situations and in a fast-paced environment.
