The post holder will be welcomed as a member of the friendly Community Learning Disability team in North Tyneside. CLDT provides a multi-disciplinary/agency service to both adults and children with learning disabilities living in North Tyneside. The Psychology Service functions as a secondary care service within the broader team and delivers a full range of assessment and treatment services to clients, families and carers in a wide range of community settings.

Main duties of the jobTo provide a highly specialist clinical psychology assessment and consultation therapy service to people with a learning disability and their families and carers in the area serviced by North Tyneside Community Learning Disability Team. This post will focus on the needs of both adults and children with additional mental health/challenging behaviour issues.
To undertake research and audit for policy and service development within the area served by the team.
To manage the provision of own and other psychologists' day to day workloads within Community Learning Disabilities Team.
To offer expertise to Learning disability services, by providing psychological advice, consultation, training and consultation to members of the multidisciplinary team.
Job responsibilitiesThe post-holder will work autonomously within the BPS Good Practice guidelines and the overall framework of the teams policies and procedures. They will hold a caseload, be responsible for supervising more junior psychology staff and trainees on placement. They will also be responsible for psychology test equipment and materials held within the team.
Person Specification Qualifications/Experience- Doctoral Level Training in clinical psychology of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS.
- Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge, through further post-qualification training/continuing professional development relevant to this post, such as completion of approved courses in specific therapeutic modalities (e.g. CBT), clinical supervision, further training and experience in supervision/consultation/training/research and/or management skills.
- Registration with HCPC
- Previous post qualification experience of highly specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients through supervised clinical practice in learning disabilities.
- It is an essential requirement of the role that the post holder has a valid driving licence and is either a car owner and able to use the car for work purposes.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
