Job overview

We have a fixed-term vacancy for a Highly Specialist Pharmacist - Paediatric Metabolic for 9-months.

We are looking for a committed pharmacist with an interest in paediatric metabolic.

The successful applicant will be working with a team of highly motivated and experienced pharmacists and technicians providing patient-centred pharmaceutical care to paediatric patients.

Main duties of the job
  1. To lead, deliver, develop and evaluate clinical pharmacy services within the Evelina London Children's Hospital to the paediatric metabolic directorate, in accordance with the objectives set by the Clinical Lead Pharmacist.
  2. To act as a role model in paediatric metabolics.
  3. To provide a consistently high pharmaceutical service in line with GSTFT corporate objectives and NHS Plan.
  4. To lead, deliver, develop and evaluate the processes for approval, appropriate use and audit of high cost medicines commissioned by NHS England (NHSE) and Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG's) in accordance with the objectives set by the Clinical Lead Pharmacist.
Person specification Knowledge/Qualifications
  • MPharm or equivalent pharmacy degree
  • Registered Pharmacist of the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pharmacy regulations
  • Member of the Faculty of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (or working towards) at Advanced Stage II
  • Recognised management qualification or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of process optimisation methodologies
Skills
  • Ability to ensure safe, clinically effective and cost-efficient use of medicines
  • Ability to apply advanced knowledge of drug use and therapeutic trends
  • Demonstrates advanced level of clinical reasoning and judgement and able to manage difficult and ambiguous problems.
  • Evaluates pharmaceutical and financial information including high cost medicines funded via IFRs
  • Deliver clinical governance agenda in relation to drug use
  • Demonstrates a whole-system patient-focussed approach
  • Good organisational and time management skills and meeting set targets and deadlines
  • Demonstrates good leadership skills
  • Demonstrate innovation
  • Communicates effectively to external organisations
Experience
  • Substantial post registration experience of UK hospital pharmacy practice
  • Standard operation procedure or guideline development
  • Education and training experience including supervision and appraisal of staff and students
  • Experience in practice research or audit
  • Representation of pharmacy at directorate or equivalent level
  • Management of a pharmacy clinical service
  • Identify new prescribing practices that may impact the medication budget
  • Advanced knowledge of electronic prescribing and medicines administration IT systems.
  • Experience of delivering pharmaceutical care to paediatric patients
