Housing Solicitor/Barrister

Salary Grade 12: £49,764 - 52,805 (per annum pro rata)

Hours: Full time, 37 hours p/w fixed term

Maternity leave cover for 14 months between 2nd June 2025 to 31st July 2026

Location: Council House, Priory Road, Dudley DY1 1HJ / Working from Home

Dudley MBC is seeking an experienced housing or civil litigation specialist who is keen to make a difference for those who live and work in the Borough. This vacancy is to cover a 14-month period of maternity leave.

The Community Safety team forms part of the wider Law and Governance Division, and we are seeking to appoint an additional solicitor/barrister within the Housing Legal Team to further enhance the professional service we provide to our internal and external clients.

Reporting directly to the Senior Solicitor, the successful applicant will undertake a broad range of legal work related to housing law, including litigation and advocacy, and provide general advice to the Council's stakeholders. The ideal candidate should be experienced in the law relating to housing possession proceedings, anti-social behaviour injunctions, and dealing with a full caseload of files (or possess transferable civil litigation skills). Daily tasks will include drafting notices, court applications (including claims for possession and injunctions), undertaking advocacy, providing in-house legal training, and assisting in the drafting of policies, protocols, and procedures.

The post-holder must be able to work flexibly, possess excellent communication skills, and be able to prioritise workloads efficiently. You must hold appropriate professional qualifications, cope well under pressure, and be prepared to work both as part of a team and on your own initiative.
