Human Resources Advisor, Arts, London, 12 month FTC, hybrid, to £37,500 - £41,800 plus benefits

World-renowned Arts organisation based in Central London requires a self-motivated People Advisor to join the HR Business Partner team. This is a 12 month fixed term contract and is to start ASAP. Based in London, you will be supporting a number of sites and occasional travel between sites is expected. The HR Business Partner team is part of the People Team - you will be one of 3 People Advisors, 3 HR Business Partners, 1 Senior Employee Relations Lead, 1 Associate People Advisor and the Head of HR Business Partnering and Employee Relations. You will be supported by HR Assistants.

Reporting into an HR Business Partner, responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as the first point of contact, supporting several divisional teams and providing HR support and guidance on a range of HR matters, policies, and procedures.
  • Effective and timely management of Employee Relations casework, at times complex and high volume.
  • Supporting in the development or review of HR policy, procedure or guidance, including delivering training to management.
  • Championing a consistent approach to people management, ensuring HR policies are upheld.
  • Delivering training necessary to ensure HR policies and best practice are fully communicated to staff.
  • Offering generalist advice, managing end to end employee relations (including grievance, disciplinary, capability, sickness absence) casework for your designated business areas.
  • Conducting appropriate investigations and case management into colleague or management conduct, maintaining case files, and reporting appropriately.
  • Working autonomously to manage complex casework including performance, grievance, capability or conduct issues up to and including dismissals.
  • Attending meetings where necessary as Advisor and note taker.
  • Working to resolve any disputes or grievances through informal resolution and mediation where appropriate.
  • Coaching Managers to help them fulfil their people management responsibilities.
  • Applying a common sense approach to best practice, employment law, and statutory requirements, ensuring sound advice is given to managers.
  • Delivering proactive and pragmatic business-focused solutions, recommendations, confidently working with management and colleagues.
  • Liaising with trade unions providing advice and guidance to management on union related matters.
  • Supporting HR Business Partners with change projects and lead on these as required (restructuring, reorganisations, changes to terms and conditions).
  • Monitor and analyse workforce data and management information, identifying trends and underlying issues, helping to develop action plans to address.
  • Working in partnership with the HR Talent and Operations team and the HR Assistants to ensure effective, timely People Administration and Recruitment procedures.
  • Liaising with the external Health Management provider and arranging health referrals with an Occupational Health Physician where necessary.
  • Working with the Equality Diversity and Inclusion team and Communications and Engagement team to coach and continuously build the capability on EDI and engagement.
  • Maintaining accurate records which are held securely in accordance with GDPR.
  • Proactively managing changes to and expiry of fixed term contracts; flexible working requests; maternity/family friendly leave; job evaluations; supporting managers and escalating if required.
  • Working with the HR Business Partner team to create a seamless employee experience including leading on activities and projects such as wellbeing, diversity, engagement, policy writing, talent, reward.

Experience needed:

  • A passion for HR, ideally CIPD (level 5 or working towards) qualified with a strong working knowledge of employment law including grievance, disciplinary, sickness absence and performance management.
  • Solid experience in a generalist front-line People Advisor role.
  • Experience of managing a high volume of employee relations.
  • Management of employment law cases end to end with minimal supervision, ideally within a unionised environment.
  • Experience of case management up to and including dismissal, with a particular focus on informal resolution of cases.
  • Up-to-date working knowledge of employment law; ability to apply this to find solutions in line with business needs.
  • Some experience of managing change programs is desirable.
  • Able to build and develop strong and positive relationships with managers and colleagues at all levels and be confident providing appropriate levels of support and challenge.
  • Experience of proactively partnering and coaching with managers to influence and improve service delivery.
  • A team player who can work autonomously with a creative, organised approach.
  • Knowledge of MS Office/HR case databases and trackers.
  • Confident working with complex and ambiguous situations.
  • Commitment to listening to and valuing diverse views, and experience of inclusive recruitment, including participating in interview panels, guide colleagues and support good decision making.
