About the Human Tissue Authority
The Human Tissue Authority's (HTA's) primary goal is to protect public and professional confidence in the safe and ethical use of human tissue. We are the national independent regulator for organisations that remove, store and use tissue for research, medical treatment, post-mortem examination, teaching and public display. We also approve organ and bone marrow donations from living people. With the interests of the public and those we regulate at the centre of our work, we aim to maintain confidence by ensuring that human tissue is used safely and ethically, with proper consent.

Why this could be a great role for you .
An opportunity has become available for an experienced Data Analyst to join our team and lead our data function. This is a business-critical role, which is both visible and influential as it provides support to a wide range of work across the organisation.
As the Data Analyst, you will be responsible for extracting information about regulated sectors from our systems to provide key insights and intelligence. As our upcoming strategy will make it a priority to strengthen the use of information, you will also be key to improving how we use our data overall. This includes driving forward a data-driven project to deliver a risk-indicator tool that will improve how we regulate our sectors.
The role will involve you being responsible for reporting products including a suite of Power BI reports and dashboards, ad-hoc analysis and briefing documents. You will have the opportunity to present these products to all levels of the organisation, helping to champion the use of our data to inform regulatory and policy decisions that improve the way we regulate.
Your role will also be key in helping us deliver our commitment to be a transparent regulator, and you will also support the development and testing of key policies and procedures linked to data management.

In summary, you will:

  1. Be the HTA's expert for data analytics, gathering data from different sources, and interrogating that data to identify patterns and trends that support data-driven decision-making.
  2. Lead on data-related products, focusing on efficient use of resources and data quality assurance.
  3. Deliver analytical expertise, by applying statistical understanding and reasoning to produce reports that help to identify practical ways to implement changes to systems and processes.
  4. Develop excellent working relationships with stakeholders, to influence the use of data, reporting and insights and champion best practice.
  5. Work to foster a culture of using and discussing data to help drive decision-making and change.
  6. Seek opportunities to develop the HTA's use of data and improve data quality overall.

What you will bring
To succeed in the role, you will have experience as a Data Analyst (or similar) and enjoy analysing large datasets to understand root causes, and provide insight that supports evidence-based decision-making.
You will be an effective communicator who is willing to make challenging and fair decisions about what our data is telling us, and be comfortable with presenting this information to senior stakeholders. You will also be a team player that enjoys building strong working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders, suppliers and contractors to make progress and solve challenges.
As the role is varied, you will also be able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, ensuring effective prioritisation in line with emerging needs.

What we can offer you
Your health and wellbeing is important to us and we support you through generous annual leave (32.5 days, plus eight Bank Holidays), a cycle to work scheme, a subsidised gym membership and an eye care initiative. We also offer membership of the NHS pension scheme.
While our office is based in Stratford, London, we offer a flexible office-based contract (requiring a minimum of 1 day a week in the office) or a remote-working home-based contract (requiring you to attend the office when there is a business need). We ensure that our home-based workers are also have what they need to comfortably work from home.

Essential Skills and Experience:
Strong ability to interrogate data from multiple sources, identify trends and patterns, and share insights and key messages.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to tailor information for different audiences.
Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team to deliver analytical data projects.
Experience of modern analytical and visualisation tools and languages (such as MS Excel and PowerBI).
Ability to engage with stakeholders and build good working relationships, to better understand their data and reporting requirements and translate these into technical requirements.
Experience in quality assurance of analytical work, and approaches in handling data quality issues.
Experience of being able to effectively prioritise and organise work.

Desirable Skills and Experience:
Knowledge or experience of working in a health sector organisation or regulatory authority.
Experience in project management.
