Job Description
This is a great opportunity for a Human Factors engineer to join a world class organisation to support the UK's biggest and best nuclear and defence projects.
- Job Title - Human Factors Engineer
- Location - Remote (monthly site visit)
- Contract Length - 6 Months
- Pay Rate - £675 a day
Responsibilities:
- Assist the lead engineer in human factors (HF) tasks, focusing on human design, safety assessments, and performance improvements within high hazard industries.
- Conduct evaluations of systems and processes
- Task analysis (looking at what tasks humans are doing and how they can be improved)
- Error analysis (examining mistakes people might make and how to prevent them)
- Workload analysis (evaluating whether tasks are too demanding or overwhelming)
- Ergonomic design (ensuring the work environment is comfortable and safe)
- Human reliability analysis (determining the likelihood of human error in high-risk situations)
- Develop plans, cost estimates, and timelines for human factors assessments and review the work of other team members.
- Help the business engage with regulatory bodies like ONR, DNSR, and the EA to address human factors concerns.
- Advocate for designs that focus on making systems, processes, and facilities better for the people who use them.
- Provide professional advice on human factors across a wide range of areas, such as system safety, health assessments, personnel management, training, and organization design.
- Help develop and deliver human factors training to the business and investigate incidents to identify the causes and prevent future occurrences.
Qualifications:
- A degree in psychology (preferably with a focus on occupational or industrial psychology, ergonomics) or an engineering degree with a strong emphasis on human factors.
- You should be a registered member of organizations like the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF) or the British Psychological Society (BPS), with experience in the human factors field in high-hazard industries (like nuclear).
- Experience in human factors assessment techniques (like HEART, THERP, APJ) and in industries where safety is critical, such as nuclear, aerospace, or process industries.
- Ability to understand complex engineering concepts and clearly communicate human factors-related advice to engineers and other teams.
