Interim Head of Financial Accounting

A Housing Association in Northamptonshire is seeking an Interim Head of Financial Accounting to lead the hands-on management and delivery of year-end. With a manual process in place due to an ongoing systems change, this role requires a proactive accountant who can pull together financial information, liaise with auditors, and ensure a smooth year-end process.

Key responsibilities include:

• Preparing statutory accounts for all entities within the Group.
• Coordinating the preparation for year-end, ensuring key deadlines are met.
• Acting as the key liaison for external auditors, providing necessary documentation and responses.
• Managing a manual year-end process, gathering financial data from across the organisation.
• Providing high-level review and oversight of financial statements, reconciliations, and audit queries.

This is a crucial role within the finance function, offering the opportunity to make an immediate impact by ensuring a successful year-end while the organisation navigates wider business change. The role is based out of the Northamptonshire office one day per week, with a flexible approach to hybrid working.

To be considered, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Extensive experience in social housing finance, with a strong technical accounting background.
• Proven ability to manage year-end processes, including statutory accounts preparation under Housing SORP, and audit liaison.
• Comfortable working in a manual environment due to system transition.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to coordinate financial information across departments.
