Salary: £27,300 - £32,533 + London weighting £5,319 pro rated depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
Contract type: Permanent role - Part-Time (14 hours). The hours will fall on a Saturday and Sunday 5am - 1pm.
Location: Office Base is London.
Main ResponsibilitiesThis is a weekend newsreader role and the successful candidate will be the voice of news on Radio London on a Saturday and Sunday.
You will also:
- Need to be able to use a range of video, audio and digital equipment and information technology to research, write, assemble, edit and deliver outputs in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.
- Be required to present the content on radio, TV or online. This might be live or recorded.
- Need to be able to exercise editorial judgment in developing story ideas and producing accurate and impartial journalism.
- Be required to undertake pre- and post-production and studio work, live and pre-recorded.
- Need to liaise closely with other team members and with other departments in the BBC, to ensure that output material is shared, duplication is avoided, and best practice is upheld.
- Take the lead within a team setting or on delivering a specific piece of journalism or project as appropriate.
- Tailor different news treatments for different audiences ensuring that the output reflects the audiences we serve.
- Need to prioritise and plan activities taking into account all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines, staffing and resources available.
- Delivering to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards.
- Significant experience as an on air newsreader with a strong broadcast voice.
- Excellent bulletin writing skills.
- Sound editorial judgement.
- Confident working knowledge of media law and BBC editorial guidelines.
- Significant knowledge of London news and market.
- An understanding of the core purpose of BBC Local Radio and the audience we serve.
- Be organised and meticulous.
- Ability to work under pressure and understand the changing demands of our audience.
