Job overviewThe post holder will provide clinical expertise and knowledge demonstrating a sound understanding of supporting CYP and families having Proton Beam Therapy and have detailed clinical knowledge of Oncology/Haematology conditions. They will support and guide junior staff in the process. Within the busy Oncology/Haematology department, the post holder will also assist the senior Sister/Charge Nurses in ensuring that high standards of quality of care are delivered and maintained, utilizing the protocols and treatment plans ensuring the correct guidance is followed. The post holder will act as a positive role model within the department for staff, patients, and carers and will participate in the improving quality programme within the trust.
Main duties of the jobTo support the ward manager in implementing education, training, and development strategies throughout the area for all staff groups. The role contributes to the improvement of standards to care through the development of the newly qualified workforce.
The role will include proton nurse liaison working within the Oncology/Haematology outpatient department supporting all the CYP and families having proton beam therapy, liaising with MDT's within RMCH, Christie, and the CYP PTC, and also supporting clinics/managing the day case unit and supporting the procedure list. The post holder will be competent in the clinical skills required for a Band 6 position within Oncology/Haematology outpatients and will be IV competent and proficient in Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT). They will participate in audit and research, teaching, and supporting colleagues throughout changes in practice. In conjunction with the Ward Manager, they will ensure that the workforce is fit for purpose in terms of their roles and that individual competencies are reviewed to provide a safe, high-quality, and efficient service.
Delivery of and supporting staff in Appraisals, revalidation, mandatory training, preceptorship, and continuing professional development. They will contribute to the Trust education and development strategies, leading projects as designated by the Ward manager/Modern Matron.
