Job overview

We are seeking to recruit a Band 6 Junior Sister / Charge Nurse. The candidate will be a motivated and experienced Critical Care Nurse who is dependable and dedicated to delivering the highest standards of nursing care. The working hours would be Monday-Sunday day shifts and night shifts on internal rotation, full-time or part-time.

You will be based on the ICU at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary. The ICU is an 11 bedded unit, delivering the highest standards of Adult General Intensive Care. We're a small and friendly, mighty team.

Main duties of the job

To ensure a high standard of care is delivered by the nursing team within the critical care environment through the provision of evidence-based practice.
Provide support to the unit manager and senior colleagues in the management and organisation of the unit.
Provide clinical and managerial expertise.
Play a key role in co-ordinating and developing the nursing team.
To provide support to the unit manager in ensuring all staff comply with Trust policies and professional and legal standards.

Person specification Qualifications
  • RGN
  • ENB 100 or equivalent accredited Critical Care course
  • Evidence of teaching/ assessing
  • Evidence of continuing professional development since registration
  • Critical Care National Competency Level 3
  • Critical Care National Competency Level 4
Experience
  • Experience of teaching/assessing/ supervising others in a clinical setting
  • Demonstrable experience of developing a service following from own learning
  • Experience of managing a team, in line with Trust policies, and developing them to enable them to achieve the goals of the service and the Trust
  • Experience of managing resources effectively within budget constraints
  • Experience of quality assurance, and ability to apply those principles within own service, through audit, risk assessment, incident reporting, and appropriate action planning
  • Evidence of change management in clinical practice
  • Experience of work as a link nurse
  • Involvement in auditing standards of care on the unit
Skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to deal with "difficult situations" with tact and diplomacy
  • Clinical teaching and assessment skills
  • Audit / Research awareness
Knowledge
  • A good foundation in critical care nursing
  • Evidence of on-going professional development
  • Knowledge of confidentiality and the data protection act
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and effective risk management, including action planning
