Job Description

Within our Software Products team, our Lead Engineers rapidly deliver modern, high quality software products. While the core competency of this role is software engineering, these individuals work closely with customers, understanding their needs and help to shape and deliver solutions. They are comfortable engaging during the sales process to understand requirements, deliver demos, and to help build confidence with potential customers.

Role Profile

You will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining our software platforms - from infrastructure to frontend code, ensuring it is secure, scalable, and highly available.

We expect our engineers to have a background in and thorough understanding of software and cloud engineering. You will keep abreast of emerging technologies and be able to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary software delivery environment.

Key responsibilities

Delivery of high quality cloud-based technical solutions for our clients:

  • Lead the delivery of features, modules, and new software products
  • Act as a final decision maker on difficult technical issues, working in consultation with team members
  • Deploy and manage cloud resources, containers, and related services using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) including Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Configure and maintain networking, security, and access control in the cloud environment
  • Implement and maintain robust security practices to protect data and resources in the cloud environment
  • Develop and maintain automated processes for provisioning, monitoring, and scaling cloud resources, including the use of CI/CD pipelines to streamline application deployments
  • Monitor cloud infrastructure for performance bottlenecks and proactively optimise resource usage
  • Implement load balancing, caching, and content delivery solutions to ensure high availability and performance
  • Design and maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions to ensure business continuity in the event of system failures or data loss
  • Ensure any necessary compliance standards are met and certifications are maintained

Driving forward the commercialisation of our software products:

  • Work directly with customers to understand their needs and identify how technology could be applied to meet these
  • Consolidate common needs expressed by multiple customers to help inform the future roadmap for our products
  • Play an active role in delivering demos and attending events where you will contribute to the successful sale and adoption of Made Tech products
  • Work productively and positively with third parties to deliver integrations
Skills, knowledge and expertise
  • Significant prior experience in an engineering leadership role, with a strong foundation in successfully building and deploying services in the cloud.
  • A deep knowledge of the AWS cloud platform
  • Hands on experience delivering software using multiple programming languages, and a thorough understanding of modern software engineering best practices
  • Deep experience with containerisation and orchestration tools (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience architecting cloud infrastructure, and taking it through to deployment and support
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams with product, design, and technical disciplines all successfully collaborating
  • An understanding of DevOps, SRE and Platform Engineering, and their places within a modern digital organisation
  • Relevant cloud certifications such as AWS Cloud Practitioner, Developer, DevOps Engineer, Security, Advanced Networking or Azure Developer, Security, DevOps, Network Engineer
  • Knowledge of cloud vendor partner programs, such as AWS APN and Azure Partners
  • Experience with well-architected frameworks
  • Agile practices such as Scrum, XP, and/or Kanban
  • Experience using Test Driven Development (TDD)
