Westmorland and Furness Council, Highways and Transport service is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to join us as the Lead Highways Network manager. We are excited to offer this excellent opportunity for candidates with experience in highways, civil engineering, transportation, and construction backgrounds, who are looking to join a large and thriving organisation.

The Service is responsible for managing and delivering Westmorland and Furness Council's duties for Highways Services.

The role is responsible for the leadership and the management of Westmorland and Furness Council's Highways Network Management service, and to be the lead manager for Highways Network Management across all Locality areas, being responsible for the delivery of the highway maintenance functions and the delivery of local highways priorities.

The successful candidate will have leadership and management responsibility for a team of Highway Network Managers covering a wide range of statutory highway functions and asset improvement, including coordination with other area-based functions, such as traffic management, development management and programme management. Ensuring that staff engage and work with the whole organisation, encouraging a 'one team' work and performance culture, whilst delivering effective and efficient highways services, is a vital part of this role.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone with substantial senior level experience in Highways or Network management disciplines, ideally within a highways or wider civil engineering discipline and with a comprehensive knowledge of highways and transportation issues and services including Asset management, project, programme and risk management, Performance management and Contract/Partnership management.

The role requires knowledge of our political processes and structures of the Council and its key partners, working in a rapidly changing environment. Substantial experience of managing complex issues, programmes and contracts including change management and the implementation of innovation, will be an advantage.

The role will take financial responsibility for both Capital and Revenue budgets.
