Job Description

Predominantly remote with some travel to offices in Cardiff, CF11.

Background

We are seeking an experienced designer who can exercise independent judgment to plan and lead activities within larger teams and on more complex services.

The role involves working with service managers and programme directors to develop design concepts and having responsibility across complex services, including Vaccination and Pharmacy Services.

The successful candidate will help set direction, embed good practices within teams, and make important decisions based on research, understanding how this research impacts others.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Management, Leadership, and Training
  2. Coach, train, and mentor team members, providing guidance on tools and methods.
  3. Act as a recognised expert and advocate for the approaches taken, continuously reflecting and challenging the team.
  4. Identify problems or issues within the team dynamic and address them proactively.
  5. Conduct Agile 'health checks' to identify issues and stimulate appropriate responses.
  6. Foster a motivated team environment and facilitate optimal team composition based on the situation.
  7. Share best practices and coach others.
Skills and Experience
  1. Proven experience in a designer role at a similar level, collaborating with service owners and product managers to develop design concepts.
  2. Experience interpreting evidence-based research and incorporating findings into work, understanding their impact on others.
  3. Experience meeting performance targets, coaching, and mentoring to improve team performance.
  4. Technical understanding of COTS applications and/or bespoke software for system configuration, audit, and support.
  5. Proficiency with software tools that automate or assist development processes.
  6. Familiarity with data structures, data manipulation, and unstructured data handling.
  7. Knowledge of structured review methods for technical work products, test plans, business cases, and architectures.
  8. Proficiency in iterative design methods, focusing on ergonomic impact and user experience across various locations and devices.
  9. Understanding of agile practices, DevOps culture, and continuous delivery principles.
  10. Awareness of the organisation's brand image, culture, and environment.
Additional Details

The initial contract duration is six (6) months, with the possibility of extension for another six (6) months by mutual agreement.
