Learning & Development Specialist - Operational Excellence / Work-Winning

Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

Arup University is the firm's centre of excellence and is responsible for our communities of experts and enthusiasts that enable members to develop our skills and capability to better meet the needs of our clients and drive continuous innovation across the firm. We are dedicated to expanding our knowledge, strengthening our collective capabilities, and accelerating our progress towards a sustainable future.

The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Learning & Development specialist to join a passionate team that is striving to shape Arup's Learning culture and make a lasting impact on organisational development. Working with diverse audiences globally, you will support the design, development and implementation of impactful Learning solutions that empower our members to develop new skills and thrive in their roles.

This critical role focuses on diagnosing, designing, developing, and evaluating learning solutions to address Arup's evolving operational excellence and work-winning needs. The successful candidate will support the Operational Excellence account by enhancing project delivery capabilities, equipping Project Managers (PMs) and Project Directors (PDs) with essential skills for the project lifecycle, and driving improvements like the global redesign of the PM PD Accreditation process. Additionally, the role will play a pivotal part in developing the newly scoped Work-Winning account, aiming to empower our members to build client relationships and secure contracts in alignment with Arup's strategic priorities. This position is instrumental in addressing key initiatives to enhance client engagement and deliver long-term value. As our strategy evolves, the L&D Specialist will adapt to meet the changing needs of our organisation, bringing flexibility and expertise across Learning at Arup.

The successful candidate will also have a strong foundation in Learning and Development practices, with experience in designing and delivering learning across a range of methods. You will have a solid understanding of adult Learning principles and be comfortable working with Learning Management Systems (LMS) to design, organise and track Learning solutions, and collaborate with diverse, global teams. Additionally, the candidate will have a natural curiosity for emerging Learning technologies and trends, and a passion for continuous improvement. As a life-long learner, you are always seeking opportunities to expand your knowledge and bring fresh ideas to the table, ensuring that our programmes remain innovative and effective.

This role is a permanent role and will report directly into the Learning team Lead.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for people who:

  • Can demonstrate the ability to work across all aspects of the learning cycle (e.g. needs analysis, design & development, delivery, assessment & evaluation)
  • Have advanced stakeholder management, relationship building, and influencing skills, including experience working with geographically dispersed and senior stakeholders
  • Can demonstrate project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, pay close attention to detail, and work collaboratively with others
  • Have experience utilising different learning methodologies and technologies - and an ability to select the most appropriate solution
  • Have the ability to work with external partners, including academic institutions, consultants, and facilitators. A proactive, detail-oriented mindset that thrives in managing multiple tasks and coordinating events globally.
  • Have a recognised qualification in Adult Education / Workplace Training

The role is based in either London, Madrid, Hong Kong, Melbourne or New York three days a week, and two days working from home.
