This is a 1 year fixed term position.

The post-holder will be fully accredited in General Paediatrics and/or Community Child Health. Excellent communication & liaison skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team are essential. The department proactively promotes clinical governance, and the appointee should be able to demonstrate skills in audit, risk management & evidence-based guidelines. As a University hospital, there is a strong commitment to teaching medical students and junior doctors. The post holder is expected to play an active role in all undergraduate and postgraduate training activities.

The post will be based in the department of Community Paediatrics at Hackney Ark with clinical sessions undertaken at the Hackney Ark and other Community venues as required. There will be an average of 6.5 PA of direct clinical care and 1.5 PA allocated for supporting professional activities. As a senior employee of the Trust, the post holder will work in close co-operation with and support other clinical, medical, professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality, safe health care to patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Main Responsibilities:

Clinical Responsibilities

1. Participate and lead on autism assessments in Hackney Ark - Complex Communication Clinics (children under 5 years old).

2. Specific responsibility for Community Paediatrics in Patch Neurodevelopmental Clinic

1. Provision of a weekly multidisciplinary neurodevelopment clinic for the assessment and management of children with developmental delays and disabilities at the Hackney Ark
2. Support to HV's, GP's, schools and nurseries
3. Attendance at Multi-agency Referral weekly meeting (MARS)

3. Child Protection

1. Taking an active role, together with colleagues within the Trust, in seeing children with child protection concerns.
2. This includes all aspects of child abuse, neglect and fabricated illness.

Person specification Qualifications

1. MBBS or equivalent
2. MRCPCH or equivalent
3. On GMC Specialist Register with full GMC registration
4. CCT / CESR Paediatrics (or specialty trainee eligible for CCT within 6 months of interview date - the applicant should be able to produce evidence that he/she is within 6 months of CCT date and is expected to achieve a CCT)
5. Subspecialty recognition in community paediatrics and/or neurodisability
6. Management course

Experience

1. Higher Specialist training in Community Child Health, Neurodisability or including experience in the management of children with disabilities
2. Experience in working with children of school age with a disability
3. Definitive Training &/or experience in Child Protection
4. Up to date with Level 3 Child Protection
5. Experience in evidence based

Knowledge & Expertise

1. Ability to work on own initiative unsupervised and make decisions.
2. Excellent communication skills (written & oral) and ability to develop good working relationships
3. Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively.
4. Team-player with experience of multidisciplinary working & liaison across organisation boundaries.
5. Special knowledge relevant to community paediatrics in an inner city area of high deprivation
6. Specific experience in tone management, botox and or epilepsy
7. Accreditation in standardised developmental assessment tool e.g. Griffiths
8. Participation in quality improvement or clinical audit
9. Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching/training skills
10. Insight into research methods and evaluation
11. Publications
12. Experience of Educational Supervision, Teaching Skills, Course such as Training the Trainers

Management

1. Understanding of management issues and service planning
2. Demonstrated ability to manage a service, team or project
3. Formal management training
