Job Description
Locum Consultant In Intensive Care Medicine Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust

Heart Lung and Critical Care Clinical Group, part of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint two full-time enthusiastic Consultants in Critical Care Medicine based at the Royal Brompton Hospital.

The successful applicants may be required to work in other locations within the Trust, as well as undertaking outpatient clinics on other Royal Brompton Hospital sites.

The post holder will join the existing Critical Care Team and will report to the Heart Divisional Director.

Applicants are required to be fully registered Medical Practitioners and must be on the GMC's Specialist Register in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.

Main duties of the job

Applicants are expected to participate in and contribute to the proper functioning and efficient running of Critical Care Medicine delivery flexibly across our critical care facilities.

Applicants are expected to participate in the on-call rotas, including critical care, extracorporeal support (including ECMO) and patient retrieval, and to ensure that the provision of these are efficient and consistent with the needs of the service.

Job responsibilities
  • Work with the current team of Critical Care Consultants to deliver a high-quality critical care service at whatever location this is required
  • Work closely with colleagues to continue to maintain excellence within and assist in the ongoing development of a severe acute cardio-respiratory failure service including ECMO
  • Collaborate with the research program and lead research projects as appropriate
  • Collaborate with clinical and research data collection, and presentation
  • Participate fully in clinical audit and clinical governance for the Critical Care and ECMO services including attendance at relevant meetings
  • Undertake teaching and training locally and nationally
  • Contribute to local, national, and international development of the Critical Care service as described above
Person Specification Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Technical and clinical skills required for Adult Critical Care Medicine
  • Wide knowledge of cardiac and thoracic physiology
Experience
  • Adult Critical Care Medicine
  • Cardiac/cardiothoracic Critical Care
  • Transport of critically ill patients with severe respiratory failure
  • Care of patients receiving extracorporeal support
Qualifications/Training
  • Full GMC registration
  • Basic transoesophageal echocardiography training
  • MRCP or FRCA or equivalent
  • CCT/CCST in Intensive Care Medicine, Anaesthesia, or equivalent
  • FFICM/EDIC or equivalent
  • Higher degree (MSc, MD, MPhil, PhD or equivalent)
  • On the Specialist Register of the GMC or within 6 months of eligibility at the time of interview

Salary: £105,504 to £139,882 a year p.a. excl. LZ
