Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a locum consultant ophthalmologist with a keen specialist interest in oculoplastics to join the team at Abergele Eye Unit on a 6-month fixed term basis. This is a full-time post of ten sessions per week (please refer to the Welsh Consultants' contract for precise contractual details) and will consist of dedicated oculoplastics outpatient clinics and theatre sessions. All theatre sessions have senior anaesthetic cover. There will be dedicated secretarial/admin support and mentoring will be available to newly appointed consultants. Annual leave and study leave/professional leave will be provided in accordance with the Welsh Consultant contract.

This is a fixed term post.

Main duties of the job

This is a full-time post consisting of ten sessions per week (please refer to the Welsh Consultants' contract for precise contractual details). It will be split as 8 DCC and 2 SPA's. There will be dedicated secretarial/admin support.

The fixed sessions will include 6 outpatient clinics (specialist oculoplastic) and 2 theatre sessions. The theatre sessions will be used for subspecialty procedures. The theatre sessions have senior anaesthetic cover. The remaining flexible sessions would be used to support professional development, teaching, research, clinical governance, patient administration, and to cover on-call commitments. Mentoring will be available to newly appointed consultants.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Full GMC registration
  • Other Higher Degree or Diploma
  • Name on Specialist Register OR proof of eligibility of entry onto Specialist Register OR within six months of obtaining a CCT at the time of the interview.
Experience
  • Broad Based general experience in Ophthalmology plus specialist skills in chosen sub-specialty. Ability to provide general ophthalmology on-call service.
  • Additional specialist skills or experience.
CLINICAL GOVERNANCE
  • An understanding of the Strategic and Operational issues underpinning Clinical Governance and their application in daily practice and evidence of such.
MANAGEMENT
  • An understanding of NHS management practices and their application and evidence of such.
  • A willingness to partake actively in the management of any specialist interest of the appointee within the job.
  • A willingness to attend and actively participate in the departmental management meetings.
  • Experience of rostering.
AUDIT
  • Evidence of participation
