Locum Medical Oncology Consultant in Breast & Gynaecology

This is a 6-month Medical Oncology Locum Consultant post with special interests in breast and gynaecological cancers, delivering systemic anti-cancer therapies, with the possibility to extend further. The post will support two established and experienced non-surgical oncology teams and will be based at the Leeds Cancer Centre, St James's University Hospital.
There will be opportunities to contribute to the MDT and departmental meetings, as well as teaching and service developments. This is an exciting time to join our Breast and Gynaecology Services as we are currently looking at pathway redesigns, alongside developing the services and the team.
Main duties of the jobAttendance at breast and gynae clinics.
Attendance at MDT meetings.
Participate in ward rounds and the on-call rota.
Prescription of systemic and hormone therapy.
Discussion with patients and their relatives.
Initiation/ change of treatments.
Manage patients receiving treatment for breast and gynaecological cancer.
Attendance at service and departmental meetings.
Work closely with clinical colleagues and support the wider breast and gynae teams with clinical activity. Provide mutual cross-cover colleagues where necessary.

Job responsibilitiesThis is a 10PA locum appointment for a Consultant Medical Oncologist, with special interests in Breast and Gynaecology.
This post will deliver 6 PAs supporting the Gynaeoncology team and 4 PAs supporting the Breast cancer team.
There will be opportunities to contribute to the central Leeds Breast and Gynaecology MDTs and departmental meetings, as well as teaching, research and service developments.
Requirements of the post General Training and QualificationsThe appointee must hold accreditation in MB BS, MB ChB or equivalent with the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent and have completed higher specialist training (or equivalent) if currently in a training programme within the UK.
Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK.
ExperienceThe appointee must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of medical oncology and appropriate experience in Breast and Gynaecological cancers. It is desirable that the candidates have experience in the conduct of clinical trials.
TeachingThe Trust as a teaching hospital recognises the importance of links with the University of Leeds, School of Medicine for the undergraduate teaching and all Consultant and medical staff are required to provide an appropriate contribution to the undergraduate teaching programme.
Person Specification Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Is up to date and fit to practise safely.
- All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues.
- Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
- Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
- Well organised and skilled in good time management.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate ability to relate to and work within a team.
- Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.
- Understanding of current issues in the NHS.
- Attendance at recognised management course.
- MB BS (or equivalent)
- Higher degree e.g. MD/PhD relevant to the subspecialty
- Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Medical Oncology.
- Specifically, he/she must demonstrate higher training in breast and gynaecological cancers.
