Job Description
Locum Specialty Doctor in Adult Mental Health Inpatients Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established team on an inpatient adult mental health unit at Roseberry Park, Middlesbrough. There are 4 wards, plus a PICU which takes admissions from the Teesside area.

Main duties of the job
  1. To provide high quality clinical care to service users within the ambit of their Inpatient teams. Reasonable changes in work plan will be discussed with the post holder as required.
  2. To assess patients (inpatients) when requested by team colleagues, formulate initial treatment plans, arrange required investigations, seek supervision from nominated consultant psychiatrist as required.
  3. Attend daily inpatient report out in the wards, formulation meetings and discharge planning.
  4. Support junior doctors in their day-to-day tasks and training (by assisting with work place based assessments).
  5. Assist the Consultants with MHA responsibilities mainly preparing Tribunal reports and attending hearings when it is appropriate.

Person Specification Teaching & Training
  • Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.
  • Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications.
  • Participated in continuous professional development.
  • Evidence of annual appraisal and commitment to appraisal and revalidation.
Qualifications
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • At least 4 years postgraduate experience, including at least 2 years in a core psychiatry training programme in UK or abroad.
  • Approved under S12 of MHA OR able to achieve within 6 months of appointment.
  • MRCPsych or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
Clinical Knowledge & Skills
  • Good knowledge of psychiatry.
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
Research, Audit & Quality Improvement
  • Has actively participated in clinical audit.
  • Shows commitment to quality through knowledge of quality improvement and lean thinking methodology.
  • Participated in research and/or service improvement.
