Job summary
Reporting to the Director of HSE, the HSE Manager is responsible for the development, organization, deployment, administration, and monitoring of all Health and Safety programs within the facility, focusing on prevention and enforcing policies to establish a culture of health and safety. The role ensures thorough implementation and execution of HSE-related programs and processes and ensures all H&S programs comply with company and regulatory requirements.
Major Responsibilities / Duties
- Nurture a safe and healthy environment for our River facility by providing leadership and expertise on all HSE matters.
- Ensure compliance with, and continual improvement of, Aurora's HSE management system, including the development and updating of safe operating procedures for equipment and operations.
- Act as a subject matter expert to support facility leadership in EHS matters that affect the business.
- Participate in the investigation of workplace incidents.
- Ensure all HSE incidents are properly documented and appropriate corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner.
- Regularly review incident data to determine injury/risk trends and establish action plans as needed.
- Support and assist with activities related to workers' compensation claims, including return-to-work plans.
- Support HR by providing relevant information, documentation, and follow-up as required for claims management.
- Schedule and support monthly JHSC meetings, including monthly workplace inspections.
- Ensure tools and equipment in the facilities meet industry standards, are installed properly, and are regularly inspected as required.
- Provide site support by attending department safety meetings, completing inspections, facilitating training, and creating communications as needed.
- Conduct orientation and H&S training for new hires.
- Conduct proactive assessments to evaluate workplace hazards and opportunities.
- Work closely with leadership to drive and strengthen safety culture by resolving concerns and identifying opportunities for improvements, including maintaining a visible presence in the facility.
- Support or visits may be required on an as-needed basis to other sites within Canada.
Education & Experience
- Post-secondary education - Diploma or Degree in a program relating to safety preferred.
- CRSP designation is an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of HSE experience.
- 2+ years management level experience preferred.
- Experience in Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical, or Food Production is considered an asset.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Focus on customer service, building relations with functional and key stakeholders.
