Job Description Mechanical Design Engineer
The successful candidate will be required to perform mechanical design engineering activities in support of the mechanical architecture of a spacecraft landing system for a leading Space & Defence business based in Stevenage.

Working within the Mechanical Design Office for the Project Lead, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be required to produce 2D and 3D design outputs for both sub-contract and production Assembly Integration and Test teams. These activities will include:

The successful candidate will be required to perform mechanical design engineering activities in support of the mechanical architecture of a spacecraft landing system for a leading Space & Defence business based in Stevenage.
Key Activities and Responsibilities:
Working within the Mechanical Design Office for the Project Lead, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be required to produce 2D and 3D design outputs for both sub-contract and production Assembly Integration and Test teams. These activities will include:
- Production of all sub-contract Interface Requirement Documents (IRDs) for all sub-systems.
- Configuration and export of IRDs to external and internal suppliers/groups.
- Import of configured supplier Interface Control Documents (ICDs) - 3D models/2D drawings or equivalent, and transfer into sub-contract DMU.
- Production and maintenance of the IRD - ICD Matrix & reporting to the Project and Team Lead on a regular basis.
- Full adherence to Quality processes to perform check and validation with provided checklists for both external supplier data (ICD 3D models & 2D drawings) and internal outputs.
- Production and release of all sub-contract 'Assembly Integration and Test', AIT Kits and Installations for sub-contract build purposes.
- Organisation and maintenance of the 3D DMU working environment.
- DMU Review participation, including tracking and closure of actions.
- Clash detection analysis and reporting.
- Mass and inertia analysis reports.
- Production of detailed design manufacturing drawings and assemblies following the applicable Design for Manufacture processes and guidelines to minimise cost.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Degree or equivalent in Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering or similar, or demonstrable relevant experience in lieu thereof.
- Aerospace structural design process experience.
- Previous experience in an aerospace design role.
- CATIA 3Dexperience.
- Windchill (read only).
- MS Office.
- Good communication skills - verbal and written.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Previous experience of working within the space and defence industry.
- Configuration control.
- Interface requirement and control documentation.
- Mass and inertia analysis and the creation of mass dummies.
