This role is based at our Belfast office. We have a hybrid working model of 3 days together, 2 days wherever.
Why this job mattersThe Migration Platform underpins BT Group's transformation strategy, enabling seamless migration of customers and services across our IT, product, and network estates. As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of 50-75 multidisciplinary subcontractors across design, development, testing, and data analytics. You will play a critical role in shaping migration strategies, reducing fallout, and driving automation and AI-powered efficiencies. This role is pivotal in evolving our migration capabilities from reactive, ad hoc solutions to a strategic, industry-leading platform, supporting the breadth of BT Group.
What you'll be doing- Lead and manage squads focused on delivering large-scale, data-driven migration projects across Consumer, Business, and International segments.
- Own and optimise the resource profile, ensuring the right mix of skills to meet demand while managing costs effectively.
- Work closely with senior stakeholders, including business unit leads, programme managers, and architects, to align migration solutions with BT's IT simplification strategy.
- Ensure on-time delivery of migration projects while identifying opportunities to reduce fallout, improve automation, and drive AI adoption.
- Implement structured ways of working, including sprint planning, backlog prioritisation, and governance frameworks to track migration success.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, using data analytics and automation to enhance migration efficiency and scalability.
- Own budget management for assigned squads, ensuring effective utilisation of subcontractor resources.
Must Have:
- Strong knowledge of ETL pipelines and data transformation principles
- Experience with varied disciplines across design, development, testing, and data analytics.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience working with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving ability, with a data-driven approach
- Proven experience in leading engineering teams within large-scale data transformation or migration programmes.
- Financial and budget management experience, including cost control and resource planning.
- Experience with AI and automation tools for process optimisation.
- Understanding of telecoms IT architecture, including CRM, billing, and service platforms.
