Job Description

We are looking for a newly qualified (within 2 years and not having had a substantive post), enthusiastic, forward-thinking GP to join The Penge Primary Care Network on a fixed term salaried contract until 31 March 2025 with the possibility of extending beyond this date.

Penge PCN is a network of 6 GP surgeries which are Anerley Surgery, Park Practice, Oakfield Surgery, Robin Hood Surgery, Sundridge Medical Practice & Highland Medical Practice. Together they cover a patient population of over 32,000 patients.

The PCN caters to the healthcare needs of their patients by ensuring they make the best use of collective resources across practices, local healthcare providers and professional groups to allow greater resilience to primary care. To achieve this, they are supported by additional roles such as clinical pharmacists, social prescribers, dietician, general practice assistants, care coordinators, mental health practitioners, physiotherapists, podiatrist, pharmacy technicians and now your role as a newly qualified GP.

Main duties of the job
  1. Clinically examine & assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective & plan clinical care accordingly referring patients to other services/agencies in a timely manner, utilising Practice, PCN and local guidelines.
  2. The provision of services commensurate with the primary care contract.
  3. Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance.
  4. Effective management of long-term conditions.
  5. Processing of administration in a timely manner.
  6. On a rotational basis, undertake telephone triage and duty doctor roles.
  7. Assist practices achieve in areas of the QOF.
  8. Attend & contribute effectively to practice meetings as required.
  9. Support the training of medical students from all clinical disciplines.
  10. Support the partners in achieving the strategic aims of the practice, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure.
  11. Review and always adhere to practice protocols and policies.
  12. Be aware of your duties & responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to our policies and procedures on Safeguarding Children and Safeguarding Adults.
  13. Recognise the need for & be able to perform & interpret investigatory procedures, including laboratory and radiology.
  14. Prioritise health problems & intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care.
  15. Ensure appropriate follow up of patients.
  16. Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles & apply principles of self-care.

Person Specification Abilities
  • Ability to use databases and prepare spreadsheets.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with professionals at all levels.

Experience
  • Knowledge of APMS, PMS, GMS contracts.
  • Experience of strategy development and implementation.
  • Knowledge and experience of general Practice in the UK.
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients.
  • Ability to safely oversee and share care of patients with nursing and other staff.
  • Ability to work with non-career grade staff, registrars and specialist nurses.
  • To have a broad understanding of all elements of, and a commitment to the principles of Clinical Governance.
  • Assessing risk and planning mitigation.
  • Experience and working knowledge of all relevant and legislative responsibilities relating to GDPR, Health & Safety, Human Resources and CQC.
  • Experience of working with a framework of confidentiality.
  • Use of EMIS.
  • Experience in Triage.
  • Knowledge of Quality and Outcomes Framework.
  • Knowledge of health-promotion strategies.
Qualifications
  • Full GMC registration.
  • MBBS or Equivalent medical degree.
  • MRCGP.
  • Inclusion on the performers list.
  • MPS/MDUS/MDDUS Membership.
