This is an exciting opportunity for a paediatric neurologist to join the team at the Cambridge Centre for Paediatric Neuropsychological Rehabilitation for 0.1 WTE. The service is the interdisciplinary specialist provider of paediatric neurorehabilitation for the East of England and has close links with Addenbrookes Hospital. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the long-term neurological needs of children and young people after acquired brain injury (ABI). The service works with children up to the age of 19 in the community in collaboration with local teams. This is an essential role to ensure that the medical needs continue to be met for children and families after childhood ABI.

Main duties of the job
  1. Advising on triaging, care pathways and signposting
  2. Linking with local, regional and national teams to ensure comprehensive clinical information is available
  3. Requesting, reviewing and sharing imaging (CT and MRI) to inform MDT formulation
  4. Advising on medication
  5. Linking with the CUH inpatient pathway via Major Trauma and medical ABI services
  6. Linking with CUH outpatient pathway - ABI clinic, neurosurgery and ENT
  7. Contributing to complex formulation, including providing background context from the inpatient stay (where applicable)
  8. Driving service innovation and development in conjunction with CPFT and CUH leadership and operational teams
  9. Providing senior clinical advice across the network and supporting decision making
  10. Advising on wider medical issues raised to CCPNR team e.g. possible seizures, headaches and making referrals where necessary
  11. Facilitating active 'in-reach' while the child is still in hospital

The work will take the form of:

  1. Attendance at team clinical meetings (alternate weeks Wednesday AM for 1.5 hours)
  2. Attendance at weekly consultation session (alternate weeks Wednesday AM for 1 hour)
  3. Phone advice to CCPNR and partners in other centres, radiology review, gathering of clinical information, liaison with other services, triage, medication advice, report writing, business development, CPD. (0.5 - 1 hours per week)

Person Specification Education/Qualifications
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register; Eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of training (CCT) at time of interview
  • MD or PhD APLS instructor PGCME Completion of PET 1, 2 and 3 courses Epilepsy SPIN training
Experience
  • Working with children with acquired brain injury across the spectrum of severities and across the age range 0-19
Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion and clinically manage children in the Acute and community Paediatric setting
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of GMC standards in Good Medical Practice
